Hello everyone, It's that time of the year again that I do lookups at the libraries. I'm not sure when I'm going again but it will be sometime in the near future. If you have a few items you want looked up at UWM, please email me a this time. No long lists please. Please exhaust all online resources (ancestry.com, WI death index, etc) and include all forms of the last name with all data. I do not do genealogy research - I will lookup the appropriate info based upon the libraries resources. If you are not sure what resources UWM - Golda Meir library has, check out their website for their archives holdings. There is no cost for a lookup unless you want a copy of the resource. Microfilm copies are 25 cents currently. The main resources are the pre 1907 birth, death & marriage records (pass along the vol, page etc from ancestry.com), probate index, obits, etc. For obits, I need the death or burial dates. If you use the archdiocese records as a reference, note that Calvary cemetery maintains BURIAL DATES, not death dates. Holy Cross maintains death dates. If you are unsure if its a death or burial date, list the cemetery. If you want a probate index lookup, include all spellings of the surname with your request (don't ask me again with a different spelling). There are some county indexes for deaths, marriages (see library resources) that might help if you can't find a pre 1907 index entry at ancestry.com. The date ranges are different for different types of records. Information about the archives can be found at http://www.uwm.edu/Libraries/arch/ Note, I only use the microfilm references, not paper, book, etc, references. Those are located in a different part of the library that usually isn't open when I go. UWM doesn't have naturalization records for Milwaukee County. You will have get those at the GS in Milwaukee. If you have a general question about references, resources, etc, etc, post a question to the list and I'm sure me or someone else can help you find your way! Happy New Year to all! Karen
