    1. English in Wisconsin re: Maxine's question to Cindy
    2. Cindy Dooley
    3. I originally sent this reply to Maxine, but figured I'd send it to the board, also. I'm not sure what caused the English to move to Walworth County. But, what I've found out about the people that did move to Walworth County, from surname "profiles", off theWalworth County boards, is alot of people from Vermont and New York, seemed to populate, this county in WI. It made for wonderful abundant farming. I grew up on self sufficient dairy farms, mostly in the East Troy area. So, the land would be a draw for farmers. I'm sure there were real estate people that would leave vertisements for the various part of the state, boasting of good soil, temperate climate, abundance of natural water, lots of natural springs in this area and the lakes. In Walworth County, there seems to be a lake every few miles. The land is fairly flat, compared to say Green County, where the Swiss settled, because it reminded the of the hills that were below the mountains, in the Canton of Glarus. We visited the Canton of Glarus, while overseas. My Husband is from Monticello, by New Glarus and Monroe. The farm land over there is very similar to what it is in WI. Then there are "relatives". The first ones over, would go to a certain area, then the 2nd batch of relatives would come and settle. At least that seems to be what my families did. Cindy
