HI Cindy, Thanks so much for the information!! Interesting that there was a Maria Linn, from German, in the Milwaukee area. What census did you find it on? I sure would be interested in seeing that one. She was born in 1834 in Darmstadt. She died there in 1909 and then her married name was Christ. Have most of the information that I can find here in the states but she has been a mystery. She married John Peter Christ , he was born in Alsace Lorraine France. I always thought that was a city there, but after some studying I see that it was a region. He was born 3/22/1823. I believe he was 24 when he arrived at the Port of New York, on the Teutonia and the arrival date could have been June 9, 1847. He left from Bremen and it would appear that his allegiance was Germany, he signed his declaration of intent Jan. 15, 1849. He spent some years in New York as there were children born there, have names and ages. Bought property in Fond du Lac in May 15, 1857. So guess you can see my disappointment in not being able to go back further. So in all my work her name was spelled Lynn, but ironically enough my grandmother named her first child Lynn and then I named my oldest daughter Laurel Linn. That was before I knew Maria's Last name could be Lynn. Anyway don't want to bore you. Just wanted to share I guess. If you could point me in the direction of the census please let me know. I have quite a few but none from New York. I often wondered if they were married when they got here. They had a son they named John that died at a very young age in New York. I guess I could quite now and hope to hear from you again. Sandy P in Eugene Or.
