    3. SB40 - Wisconsin Senate Bill 40 - Executive Budget Bill http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2007/data/SB-40.pdf There is a proposal going through the WI Legislature that seeks a drastic increase in the amount people would have to pay for copies of vital records. The cost increase is designed as a money maker for the general budget and will NOT be linked to improvements in the offices that administer the vital records. There is an informative letter in the Racine Journal Times from the Racine Co. Register of Deeds. Now would be the time to complain about this to your legislators and/or to the WI governor. The bill appears to still be at the hearing stage, but letters need to be sent soon. Please ignore the comments below the letter at this link. I'm not trying to share the anti-governor editorializing of those who posted responses--just want you to see the letter from the Registrar, since it clearly outlines the problem, at least from the perspective of those who need records for non-genealogical reasons. I think they also need to hear from genealogists on this issue. http://www.journaltimes.com/nucleus/index.php?itemid=12325 Go to this link: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/ and click on the "Who Represents Me" link in the middle column to find out who represents various districts. I don't see why people couldn't write to reps from their former home districts. mrf
