    3. Budget Committee Rejects Vital Record Fee Increases POSTED: 7:55 pm CDT May 8, 2007 UPDATED: 8:15 pm CDT May 8, 2007 MADISON, Wis. -- One of Gov. Jim Doyle's proposed fee increases bit the dust Tuesday in the Legislature's budget committee. Doyle had proposed $8 million a year worth of fee increases for vital records. The governor had wanted to raise the fee to obtain copies of certificates of birth, death, marriage and divorce. The extra money was to be used in part to finance automation of the state's vital records. Instead, that project will be paid for with general state tax revenue and other sources. The budget plan being worked on by the Joint Finance Committee must clear both the Republican-controlled Assembly, Democratic-led Senate and be signed by Doyle before it becomes law.
