Contact the Milwaukee Historical Society. Their website is: http://www.milwaukeecountyhistsoc.org/ They have a conversion book, as does the Public Library (Downtown), come to think of it. They may not be able to help you right away, but will get back to you, and are always so helpful. Good luck! My great great grandfather owned a tavern at 1575 Teutonia. With the current street numbering, there is no such address. Teutonia is currently numbered as a North-South Street. I'm guessing that it was once numbered as an East West street, and 1575 would be somewhere roughly between where 15th and 16th hit Teutonia. But I'd like to see if the building is still standing and for that, I need an exact address. Can anyone help? ============================== Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 Source for Family History Online. Curious about Gimbal's store; could someone tell me if this was a chain or a sole store that happened to be in Milwaukee in the early 1900's? There was a Gimbal Bros in SF around the same time, could be just a coincidence but curious about this. . . . Thanks again!! Pam again ______________________________________________________
Gimbel's in Milwaukee was part of the same department store chain as the Gimbel's in competition with Macy's in "Miracle on 34th Street." Mary Popovich
