I recently sent for the Civil War Record of my Great-Grandfather Frederick Kufahl. In a sworn statement given by Frederick at the time of appling for a Civil War Pension he states that all birth certificates and other Possesions for the Kufahl family were lost in a fire on the train in Buffalo, New York as they came cross country from New York City to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1852.
