    1. [WiMilwau] Re: BAT? attachments from Apetta
    2. To Susan, mostly-- I was pleased to find your 12/14/01 posting (below). I'm assuming this is a response to my 12/13/01 WiMilwau posting. Yet, if so, it appears to bear little relationship to the concerns that I expressed either in my 12/13/01 posting or in my previous off-list notes to you. I'd still especially appreciate your telling me if you intended to send me your unexplained and unsolicited 12/10/01 BAT attachment (below). And, if so, why? PLEASE respond to me either on-list or off-list. But once again I'm posting my present memo ON-LIST-- because you apparently haven't received my previous off-list queries. .......John PS: many thanks to Bob Fay (see below) for your very helpful input on the above. =================================================== << Subj: You are correct, I'm not receiving all [WiMilwau] Date: 12/14/01 2:09:24 AM Central Standard Time From: apetta@netwurx.net (Dr. Andrew Petta) Reply-to: WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com To: WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com Hi, You are correct, I am not receiving all of the answers to my queries. I try to be prompt in answering them. Hope this message is received. The .bat file is a standard file extension, although I don't know if it is still used. There is info here http://www.ace.net.nz/tech/TechFileFormat.html Unfortunately some viruses also use .bat extensions and the Sircam virus used it last summer....... >> =================================================== << Subj: BAT? attachments from Apetta Date: 12/13/01 3:20:57 PM Central Standard Time From: JQMagie To: WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com Apetta "directions" wanted, not drivers To Susan, etc.-- many listers are now of course more nervous than usual about possible Internet worms & viruses. And I'd really appreciate some input from you or OTHERS as to what your unexplained and unsolicited BAT attachment (below) is all about. It's probably totally benign, but I just don't know. You haven't yet responded to any of my private queries, even while you've continued to add postings to this WiMilwau list. So I'm now wondering whether you're not receiving some or all off-list e-mails sent to you. And I decided I'd send my present note as an on-list posting. ......... I'm not totally clear how well I'm protected from Internet viruses-- and I have no idea why you sent me your BAT e-mail in Appendix 1 (below). Kindly explain, so that I have a better idea whether I should try to open this "BAT" attachment. 2. Please also indicate whether you were able to confirm that Milwaukee's pre-1930 Elm Street is now West Garfield Avenue, as I had theorized. And were you able to clearly view the Yahoo map I referred you too?....... 3. Also, did you ever get receive my DIETRICH e-mail of 11/28/01....... ________________________ Subj: Unable to find drivers Date: 12/10/01 9:55:04 AM Central Standard Time From: apetta@netwurx.net (Dr. Andrew Petta) File: hardware.bat (45568 bytes) DL Time (45333 bps): < 1 minute Often the computer looks, for example, in “D:\WIN98”, the path from which Windows was installed.
