Can anyone give me an idea of whether or not there were German language newspapers in the Milwaukee area in 1875? If so where are they available perhaps on microfilm? What churches might have been attended if a family was Lutheran there? Fraternal organizations? Many thanks Nancy
There were quite a few German Lutheran churches in Milwaukee by 1875. What was your family's address at that time? On this page http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/milwaukee/milw.htm there is a link to ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wi/milwaukee/newspapers/milwnews.txt which is a list of newspapers in the Milwaukee area and the dates they were published. Some were active in 1875. I've never tried to examine these old newspapers, though. - John
