Do you know of any alternative spellings? I have the 1880 Census CDs and the only family I could find with this spelling in the whole US was in Texas. Rose Kohanek m. 30 May 1900, Milwaukee County Ancestry.com lists a Peter Kohanek living on Ashland Avenue in Chicago. This is an 1892 voter registration list. Peter stated that he was born in Wisconsin and that he had been living in Cook County, IL for the past 17 years.
