Hi all, Is there an surname index for Milwaukee county that includes all cemeteries or are there just individual indexes for each cemetery? I'm going to be in Milwaukee for the NGS conference and I'd like to be able to get some pictures of gravestones for my RESCHLEIN relatives. However, I'm not sure where people are buried and the few obits I've been able to find aren't much help. I've thought about trying to get death certificates, however it appears this can take a very long time and I probably won't get them in time for the conference. Any ideas? Thanks, Jenny
Jenny, To the best of my knowledge on the Catholic Cemeteries have a master database. There are several other cemeteries that have databases as well. If you visit my website....www.linkstothepast.com/milwaukee and click on the cemetery transcriptions, I have a list of cemeteries in Milwaukee County. Those that have entries or a database associated with it are linked. I have a search on my site, so if it is a name that I transcribed or was sent to me via an obit, the name will come up in the search. Any of the names in one of the offsite links will not come up in the search. Hope that helps. Good luck in your search, and Pre-Welcome to Milwaukee. Has anyone else experienced this: I have a relative buried at Holy Cross (I have been there and have pictures of the grave)--but he doesn't appear in the cemetery index--not certain why--the gravestone is very clear... Susan snokes@tscnet.com
My father, mother, grandparents and an aunt are all buried in the same plot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery however only my mother shows up on the Catholic Cemetery website index. My mother was the only one buried there, the other graves had been moved from Blessed Sacrament Cemetery located on 60th and Howard Ave. My guess is they don't have a record of graves that were moved, I have written to them about this but have never received a reply.
