    3. Hello, I am looking for the deaths of these two people, they came over in 1852 and were in their mid 60's then. They lived in the New Berlin area as best as I can tell, they had to have died before 1860. So they never got to be in a Census. A good friend found their children in New Berlin under the name Rinchard (Victor, Charles and Wilhelmine) in the 1860 Census, they all came over at the same time in 1852. William Christian Reinhard (Sr.) and his wife Maria Catharina Thomas are who I am looking for as far as death notices or records. Sorry, this is all I have but would like to find them and put this family together in records. Any help with their death notices would be greatly appreciated! 3. Arlene, Yes, the names are correctable, there is a little "box" on the upper right side of the page, where you can sumit corrections. My mother was entered by the census taker as a boy, just becasue her name was LaVerne, which is how a female spells it, where as he wrote it Lavern, which is a male spelling. 3. It does offer that service now. There is a link where you can tell them of the error. They don't correct it but do offer the alternate name in searches. I have made many corrections that way. 3. Arlene - I found changes, too, but cannot remember which of my ancestor's it was. I had to do the same thing you did, come at it from a different direction (street by street). At least on FreeBMD you can contact the website and tell them that a name is misspelled. Maybe Ancestry will offer this service soon. -----Original Message----- From: wimilwau-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wimilwau-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Arleen Sent: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 11:00 AM To: wimilwau@rootsweb.com Subject: [WIMILWAU] Ancestry HI A while back I heard that Ancestry was having their indexes read and recorded "off shore," hence the strange outcome of some names. Now I am wondering if they are also going back and looking at the indexing that was done on the censuses and redoing them.I know that a few years back I found with no trouble the Borowicz family on the 1900 census. I have now decided to go back and transcribe the data into my gen program. I used the search (soundex) and still nothing came back. I had the Ed and Page info so I looked for it that way. Yes I found them but wondered how they were indexed. I had a real laugh at this one - Belmarez. Also the wifes name is Julia and they have it listed as John. 1. [WIMILWAU] Harry Houdini + Joe McCarthy
    2. In addition to Harry Houdini (1874-1926), another famous resident of Appleton, WI, was Republican US Senator Joe McCarthy (1908-1957), the famous anti-Communist whom lots of people seem to have forgotten about. But I remember just as clearly where I was on 2 Dec 1954, when I heard about the momentous US Senate censure of McCarthy, as where I was when I heard about the 1963 assassination of US President John F. Kennedy (in Illinois, in both cases). Had McCarthy not been censured in 1954 and then died of alcoholism in 1957 (at age 48), he might still today be earnestly ferreting out "card-carrying members" of the US Communist party. McCarthy is reportedly buried at Appleton's St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, and I wonder, Gail, how he is memorialized at Appleton's Outagamie County Museum ............John (in metro Chicago) ______________________________________________________________________________ _ Subj: Re: [WIMILWAU] Houdini Date: 2/2/2007 12:30:02 P.M. Central Standard Time From: genereau@vbe.com To: wimilwau@rootsweb.com Houdini grew up in Appleton. He was born in Budapest. His father was Appleton's first rabbi. When Edna Ferber first started to write, she lived in Appleton, and interviewed Houdini. At the Outagamie County Museum on College Avenue, here in Appleton, there are exhibits all about Houdini. Many of his "tricks" are explained and there's his original handcuffs, straight-jackets, billboards, etc. Every year on Halloween, a séance is held. He was a great believer in debunking spiritualists but promised if he got to the "other side", he would contact people on Halloween, that's day he died from a ruptured appendix. He led a very fascinating life. Gail in Appleton <SNIP> > Thanks Mary. This was great. Houdini was from Wisconsin. 3. Hi John, Senator McCarthy's bust was in the Outagamie Courthouse for many years. Then they remodeled and didn't know where to move the bust, it was very controversial. I do believe the bust is now with other McCarthy memorabilia at the Outagamie County Museum. You can see his grave from the street at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on Prospect Avenue. Every year a mass is held at the gravesite by many who remember Senator Joe. My mother-in-law who lived in Milwaukee always attended in the 1970s and 80s. Now, it's usually a handful of elderly people who remember the Senator and those days. Next time I go to the museum, I'll look for the bust.
