2. Donna, listers, I'm sorry I didn't give the names. I should know better. This is what I know: John B. 1871, Poland and died 1953 in WI and Frances Holasz b. 1873 Poland and died 1941 WI Children: Lottie, Pauline Rose, John Joseph. This is my direct line. According to his marriage record in 1923 he was living on Dakota Street when he married. I find him with his second wife (my direct line) in 1930 in Milwaukee. It shows he came to the US in 1905. Since he was born in 1899 Poland, I'm assuming his family came over at that same time. I've been unable to locate anyone in any census records, except for Joseph in 1930. I've tried various spellings on the name and still haven't found them. Joseph in 1930 has a last name spelling of Halash. I know no further information on any of the other children. I got their names from their father's obit in 1953. I'm hoping to find the family in census records before 1930. Thank you for your time and help, Rhonda

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.

    3. According to the information at www.stevemorse.org/census/changes/MilwaukeeCD.htm 641 Dakota before the changes became 1305 W. Dakota after the changes and 656 Dakota became 1400 W. Dakota after the changes. So 654 Dakota would be in the 1300 block of W. Dakota, and that would be between S. 13th St. and S. 14th S. (closer to S. 14th S.). This is the area south and east of the Forest Home Cemetery (if you look on a modern day map site). I'll send you a screen dump of that portion of the map and the ED to your personal email address. mrf LOUWELOUWE@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > > I'm trying to find a family in the 1920/30 census records and am unable to > locate them. 3. Hello I am wondering if anyone could check a Milwaukee City Directory for a Charles b. 1848 and Hulda Baasler with children Walter b. 1875, Max b. 1879, Gretchen b. 1886 and Annie. b. 1891. Gretchen married Paul Kotlewski and I can't find him in the 1910 census so would appreciate a lookup for him in 1910 Milwaukee City Directory. I don't know when they married but their first child was born in 1912 so they were possibly married by 1910. I have tried everything I could think of to find them in 1910 census trying just birth years, just first names, soundex. Thank you.

    2. Hi, I'm trying to find a family in the 1920/30 census records and am unable to locate them. My guess is either they weren't there (I think they were) or their last name is spelling way off. I've tried using the first name and still can't find them. (I also don't see them in other states using their last name or various spellings of the last name.) I do have a marriage record for one son from 1923 and it shows an address of 654 Dakota Street. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the cross street would be so I can figure out the ED number and hopefully find them by looking at each page in that district? It's a long shot but I'm hoping it will work. Thank you in advance, Rhonda

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 3. Hello, I'm a little late in the game here, I haven't seen all the messages, so not sure if this has been suggested yet, or if you friend has access to online, but there is a great mailing list on Rootsweb for Pommerania (subject) that is bilingual German/English and offers free live person translations of German so I would guess for Polish as well, since it covers current day Poland, so I'm sure she could ask for referrals; I remember some discussion about it on the list, and it is a very active and helpful list. Probably the same would apply with her specific region of Poland of interest, it doesn't hurt to ask; I've always had help w/ translations when I needed it. 3. There is a Polish Cultural Center in Milwaukee that might be able to help find a translator, although they may charge. There is also a Polish Geneology Group there. The Polish Center (414-529-2140) in Franklin might be able to locate them too. One of their members is usually there at the center on Friday fish fry nights.

The Flavor of Wisconsin, an informal history of food and eating in the badger state, together with 400 favorite recipes, was copyrighted by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin in 1981. This book contains a lot more than recipes. It has a lot of history...and photos. Many of the recipes have the names of the women who submitted them and what ethnic group they were from. Maxine
