I have an old picture, of my Grandmother with her father, in front of their store, named after him"Fred Stock", taken in 1888. It says 577, and was also on Green Bay Ave., Originally a book store, cards, picture frames store, but in the 1900's, became a bicycle store, too. -----Original Message----- From: wimilwau-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wimilwau-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of wimilwau-request@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2007 9:06 PM To: wimilwau@rootsweb.com Subject: WIMILWAU Digest, Vol 2, Issue 101 Today's Topics: 1. Jim Doyle's proposed fee increases bit the dust Tuesday in the Legislature's budget committee. Doyle had proposed $8 million a year worth of fee increases for vital records. The governor had wanted to raise the fee to obtain copies of certificates of birth, death, marriage and divorce. The extra money was to be used in part to finance automation of the state's vital records. Instead, that project will be paid for with general state tax revenue and other sources. The budget plan being worked on by the Joint Finance Committee must clear both the Republican-controlled Assembly, Democratic-led Senate and be signed by Doyle before it becomes law. ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 09 May 2007 08:50:55 -0500 From: "Mary R. Green Bay Ave., so I knew the area fairly well. As I recall, Green Bay Ave. began at Burleigh -- about 5 blocks south of Dad's store. If my memory serves me correctly, then Green Bay would only have gone south to about the 2800 block. So are you sure about that 1804 address? Maybe you should try 2804 instead? Hope this helps and doesn't only confuse. I would like any information on the Ralph and Elsa(Elsie) (ARNDT) SHADDUCK family. They had children Seriena (1911-2005 Mabel (1913-1997) Bernice (1914-1997) Ruth (1916-1994) Kenneth (1926-1997) Children all born in Milwaukee & living in Milwaukee in 1930. I would to find any descendants. Thank you, Marcie
Ok, I think my great uncle Theodore Paschke was in the witness protection program. I cannot find him on the 1910, 1920 nor 1930 census, searching many ways (born 1886, name, soundex, born Michigan, by address...) I have his WWI Draft card from 1917-1918 and he said he was living at 1804 Greenbay Avenue. Does anyone have access to Milwaukee directories from 1910-1960? If so, I would greatly appreciate a lookup. Thank you. Dan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Kubitz was born March 23, 1884, in the city of Appleton, a son of Albert and Albertina (Schmidt) Kubitz. The parents of Mr. Kubitz were natives of Germany, and came to the United States in 1881, settling in Appleton, where Albert Kubitz began to work as a mason, a trade which he had learned in the Fatherland; and he is still in business here. He and his wife had ten children, as follows: Annie, who married Albert Breitung, a resident of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; William J.; Clara; Ernst; Elizabeth; Gertrude and Gerhardt, twins; Rudolph; Leona and one child, Albert, who died in infancy. William J. Kubitz secured his education in the public schools of Appleton, and as a young man devoted his time to learning thoroughly every branch of the grocery business. When he had reached the age of twenty-one years he embarked upon his first venture, opening a grocery establishment at No. 736 Richmond street, and so assidiously did he devote himself to the business that he had soon assured himself that it would be a success, and he at once began casting around for a location for another store. This he found in January, 1911, and now, at an age when most men are satisfied with but one moderately-paying store, he is the owner of two well-established houses each with an assured trade, demanding the services of five employes and the operation of two wagons. Mr. Kubitz is possessed of much executive ability, and is now devoting the most of his time to the new establishment at No. 479 Cherry street, to make it the success that the other has proven. The Kubitz family has always been connected with Zion Lutheran Church. Donna ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Hi, I am looking for an individual who died in the 1940's in Milwaukee & was buried in the "then known as" County Cemetery. It is believed he died betw 1942 & 1948. Seeking exact death date & location. Albert Kubitz wife possibly Olga or Lottie. Albert born possibly March/April 1888 in Freedom, Outagamie Co, Wi. It is believed he resided in Waukegan, Lake County, Ill. in 1920 census as a single boarder but cannot locate him in 1930 census. Any help deeply appreciated, Thank you, Kathy
SB40 - Wisconsin Senate Bill 40 - Executive Budget Bill http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2007/data/SB-40.pdf There is a proposal going through the WI Legislature that seeks a drastic increase in the amount people would have to pay for copies of vital records. The cost increase is designed as a money maker for the general budget and will NOT be linked to improvements in the offices that administer the vital records. There is an informative letter in the Racine Journal Times from the Racine Co. Register of Deeds. Now would be the time to complain about this to your legislators and/or to the WI governor. The bill appears to still be at the hearing stage, but letters need to be sent soon. Please ignore the comments below the letter at this link. I'm not trying to share the anti-governor editorializing of those who posted responses--just want you to see the letter from the Registrar, since it clearly outlines the problem, at least from the perspective of those who need records for non-genealogical reasons. I think they also need to hear from genealogists on this issue. http://www.journaltimes.com/nucleus/index.php?itemid=12325 Go to this link: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/ and click on the "Who Represents Me" link in the middle column to find out who represents various districts. I don't see why people couldn't write to reps from their former home districts. mrf
I was a student at St. Mary's Academy 1932 until 1938 and the orphanage was still there when I graduated. There was the school, a convent, a farm, and the orphanage, all under the same administration. I am not sure about a seminary. It was a huge complex. ----- Original Message ----- From: wimilwau-request@rootsweb.com<mailto:wimilwau-request@rootsweb.com> To: wimilwau@rootsweb.com<mailto:wimilwau@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 12:04 AM Subject: WIMILWAU Digest, Vol 2, Issue 95 Today's Topics: 1. just an idea for SMaloof" <sandmal@bellsouth.net> sometimes children were put into foundling homes (I don't know the definition of foundling home but it was something like an orphanage) while their parents were going through a difficult time, i.e. the mother died and the father had to work and couldn't keep the children and work, too. Also, maybe the church would know ...I think they ran some of them....At 04:30 PM 4/29/07, you wrote: >thanks for the info...I'm really trying to track down why my grandfather was >put in an orphanage in the late 1880's. I think the St. Aemilian Orphanage was part of the St. Francis originally before it burned down in 1930. My grandfather, Bernard Weaver was there @1888 till ? If anyone has any info on the orphanage, I would greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately, most of the records were burned in the fire.
