    2. Carl Baehr's book is called "Milwaukee Streets: The Stories Behind Their Names". It is categorized by today's names. This history may sometimes include what the street may originally have been called. In the index there is a listing for name changes. Contact Carl Baehr, 3011 E. Cudahy Avenue, St. Francis, WI 53235, 414-483-4202 for more information. > Hello: > I am interested in more information on the book listed below. 3. Hello! My family lived at 3305 N. Pierce St. in Milwaukee; in fact, that's where I grew up. In the 1960's, the 32-hundred block was home to Fratney Street School and Usingers. (The school is still there.) I'm not sure what was there during the 1930's. I didn't hear about Woody Herman living in the neighborhood, but our family story was that Fr. Jacubek's brother had a cobbler shop down the street. (Are you familiar with Fr. Jacubek? He was a very prominent priest in Milwaukee for a long time, with a long history of working for social justice and peace.) I have very fond memories of that neighborhood. I checked the 1952 Milwaukee city directory, and there are a few Borck's living on the east side, but none on Pierce at that time. If you want to look for addresses in that time frame (I also have the 1956 Milwaukee phone book) please let me know the names and I'll be glad to help. 3. b. Woodrow Charles Herman, 16 May 1913, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, d. 29 October 1987. A child prodigy, Herman sang and tap-danced in local clubs before touring as a singer in vaudeville. To improve his act he took up the saxophone and later the clarinet, all by the age of 12. By his mid-teens he was sufficiently accomplished to play in a band, and he went on to work in a string of dance bands during the late 20s and early 30s. 2. HI, long time, The addresses changed in Milwaukee the last time in the 1930's. There had been a lot of changes prior to that also; for instance Chestnet St. became Juneau Avenue. And what is now known as Wisconsin Avenue (on the west side) earlier was Grand Avenue and earlier than that as Spring St. East of the River it was Wisconsin Street and then became Wisconsin Avenue when the west side adopted it also. Maybe someone with Carl Baehr's booklet on Milwaukee Street will see your or my post here and will respond to you more fully. Bob.

    3. The addresses changed in the mid 1930s. 124 Warren Avenue would be about half-way between Franklin (113) and Albion (139). Mary Popovich Busia's Roots Professional Genealogy

    3. Town of Lake also went by the name St. Francis. Here's a link to the Town of Lake Water Tower - a landmark - which states that Town of Lake is now part of Milwaukee. http://www.msoe.edu/~reyer/mke/1940b.html Mary Popovich

    2. Hello Listers, There's been talk of street addresses in Milw. changing. I have a street address for my great greatgrandfather Zenk of 124 Warren Avenue from the 1890 City Directory. Did the address system change after 1890? Thank you Louise Ft Lauderdale

    3. Jean I am also interested in getting information about the Town of Lake. I recently sent to the Register of Deeds for a search of the birth of my great grandmother, Pauline LEVERENZ. Her obituary said she was born in 1862 in the Town of Lake. Do you know if this was a township and was it in Milwaukee County? The Milwaukee County office did not seem to know about it. Thank you for any information. I'm not sure that I would need other states. Would it be worth it for me to purchase it? I would love to have it to work on in my own home :-) Thanks for any input you can give me. 3. I have the 1880 US Federal LDS census. I am very impressed with it. It is not actual census images, but transcribed information (but not all details - see below). It is for the entire US! You get abt. 56 CDs for $49.00. That includes the index which takes up most of the CDs. The rest of the CDs have the information and are divided into Regions. The details it provdes are: Census Place FHL film # National Archives # Page # Individual details, if provided, for the census are: Name Relationship to Family Sex Marital Status Color Age Birthplace You can also check out their neighbors! The LDS did an excellant job of putting this together and even provides a nice 4 ring binder to keep all the CDs in! In my humble opinion if there was an award for genealogy deal of the year, this would win hands down! I am not afilliated with LDS/FHL/FHC in any way. Those who think they might be interested in purchasing the LDS 1880 census CDs should visit their website at www.familysearch.org ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jazinski@aol.com> To: <WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 13, 2001 3:23 PM Subject: Re: [WiMilwau] ancestry.com In a message dated 7/13/01 6:23:24 AM Mountain Daylight Time, BrennaJne@aol.com writes: << Also have the 1880 whole U.S. census from LDS and it is great Lenora from Wisconsin >> Hi Lenora, I'm really interested in buying the 1880 U.S. census from LDS.
