Hi, Just wanted to let everyone on the list know that I have arrived back in Washington State safely and you can reach me at: snokes@tscnet.com Thank you for taking time to contact me. I wish to apologize for taking so long to return a message to you. I left my home in Washington in March 2001 and had an extended stay in Wisconsin due to health/medical problems of my parents. My mother passed away in June and I was needed to assist with the estate and oversight of my father's medical conditions, including 3 surgeries between September and November. I am currently trying to catch up on 3900 e-mails which accumulated over my absence and cleaning and re-organizing my home. Please be assured that I am very interested in in sharing family history information with you and look forward to being in contact with you. Sincerely, Susan L. Folks, Like the others have said this is a hoax and the instructions given will cause you to delete a necessary operating system file. It's called the "sulfnbk.exe hoax" and you can find info on it and lots of other hoaxes at McAfee's site (or any other antivirus company site) http://vil.nai.com/VIL/hoaxes.asp Most email viruses are in attachments to email and the Rootsweb servers will *not* forward mail with attachments. Therefore there is no known way for you to get a virus from WiMilwau list mail. However, you can get a virus from private off list email between subscribers, and if it is a private response to list mail it may carry the prepend and subject line and look at first glance like harmless list mail. The Badtrans viruses are fairly famous for that. Be careful with the off list mail. When looking at some old photographs I found two pictures that I'm told are of a Lillian and Al Kebis of Milwaukee, WI. Picture was taken about 1943. Would anyone be researching this family or know of any descendents? I will be emailing a few Kebis' I found with addresses online. I am looking for any information about a Borzyck family in Milwaukee that possibly owned a meat market. The family is possibly from the same town as my Pochowski family from Slesin, Poland. Lenora from Wis.
The Archdiocese has the original records. The 1849-1920 records are available on microfilm through the LDS family history center on films #1887359, 1887360 and 1870013. Is there a published index of marriages for the period abt 1915-1930. I am trying to locate marriages of three female descendants living with their parents in the 1920 census and one other missing from that census. Any help would be appreciated. Happy New Year. Art

Hi, Could they be Volume and page numbers? That is what it seems to me to be. Vol K page 73, and Vol 428 page 167? Maybe? Good luck.. Blessings and Happy Holidays.. Debbie Christie-Rogers Bellevue NE -----Original Message----- From: John Foust [mailto:jfoust@threedee.com] Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2001 10:33 PM To: WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WiMilwau] What sort of index was this? I've inherited a stack of notes from my mother's genealogy work from 25 years ago. She wasn't very organized, and I've come across a piece of paper with no heading that has a list of names, dates and a mystery number, like: Jahn Hulda Oct 18 1852 K 73 Jahn Wilhelm Jan 26 1867 K 74 Paul Feb 23 1870 K 286 Cora Jan 21 1880 13-52 Jahn Ernst Feb 20 1907 428-167 Jahn Gwendeline Nov 6 1907 443-148 So, my question is, what sort of collection in the Milwaukee area has index numbers (or page numbers or ...) like "443-148"? I suspect she was searching some sort of book or index and jotting down "Jahn" names that might've been related to us. Ernst, for example, doesn't match any known relations, so I suspect this is a list of possibilities, not relatives. What's most intriguing is the Gwendeline entry. That's the name and birth date of a child who had been given up for adoption a week after her birth. We had found a reference to her in a "lying-in" book at the library. The family oral history had never mentioned her. I don't think my mother recognized her as a relative - after all, a previously unknown child would've been big news. Considering that the child had only lived a week under that name, it makes me think my mother was looking at some sort of birth certificate index. The index numbers almost seem consecutive, like the birth dates. On the other hand, the living relatives of the adopted child have a birth certificate under the new name, so I would've thought the original certificate would've been expunged. Or was Milwaukee record-keeping not so secretive back then? - John

Seasons greetings from Canada, Is there anyone whom that may be interested in doing a look-up for me with respect to the Milwaukee area? Thank you, Joanne
The Milwaukee County Vital Records are filed by volume and page number. The very early records are in volumes that were lettered, while later records have volume numbers. If you're unable to find someone on this list to do lookups for you, you can rent the microfilmed records through the LDS Family History Center. When ordering the films, make sure you get the Milwaukee County records, as the state records that were filed at Madison have a totally different numbering scheme.
