Yes, this is what I know: Payne Christie and Clara Johnson had a child named Bernice (?) Elaine Christie born Jan 16 1908 in Milwaukee WI. Distant cousin in Christie family tree. Bernice married Bernard W. Dower In Superior WI I believe. George and Elizabeth Pattinson Sault were in the 1889-1990 Milwaukee Directory. They had 8 children. I am missing a son John H. Salt or Sault and what happened to him. My grandmother talked of him and visiting him. She was born 1912 so he may have still been in Milwaukee in 1920. I am not sure. These are my GGG grandparents Jacob and Susan Sault Bainer were also living in Milwaukee they were also in the Milwaukee 1889-1890 City Directory, they later moved to Chicago. Susan Sault Bainer is my GG grandmother. Eugene and Sarah Salt Grant were married in 1875 in Ohio, Susan and Jacob in 1881 in Ohio, any time after this they all could have come to Milwaukee. Susan and Sarah were sisters. I do not know where Sarah and Eugene L. Grant ended up, if they stayed in Milwaukee or moved to Chicago also. They also may have been in the 1889-1890 Milwaukee Directory. Thank you.. Blessings, Debbie Christie-Rogers -----Original Message----- From: Joseph J & Maxine M. Susan, Would you have a list of children for Heinrich and Elizabetha (Michels) Jonen? Also any information for the Jonen's family in general? Vikki
Helen and others, Does anyone still live anywhere near "The Highlands?" My great-grandmother, Annie LINGER, nee OTT lived at: 34 Upper Parkway, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. I would have loved to have found it and taken a picture of it...but never did find it. I think I have a picture of it in my grandmothers old photo album--and would recognize it even today--if I could have located it. I don't know where 943 Central Avenue was, but this was where my grandmother was delivered by a Dr. J.T. Scolland M.D.on Oct. 31, 1900. I would have loved to have found it and taken a picture of it...but never did find it. After the death of his wife, Annie, Dr. Linger built two houses on 61st St. He lived at 2450 N. 61st St. Dr. LINGER also built the LINGER BUILDING...no longer in existence. It had a Restaurant & Store and was located at (Vliet St. 1131-1133N Vliet). There were several apartments and offices above the Restaurant and store. In 1961 the Building sold--if you could call it that---basically, the city of Milwaukee forced my grandmother to sell--so they could build a freeway there. I still have a few of the dishes from the old diner. Lorraine HOPPE, nee Linger, lived in the house next door to her father, Joseph. She married Herbert O. HOPPE on November 14, 1919. Dr. Joseph LINGER paid for Herb Hoppe's Schooling (2 1/2 years High School--4 years College). Joseph also fed and housed Herb, Lorraine, Marilyn and Coreen while Herb was in dental school at Marquette University. Dr. Joseph LINGER gave his daughter Lorraine the home he built on 61st in 1929. ( 2446 N 61st Street )...This was where my mother grew up and where my father began courting her. I have pictures of both of these houses. The family attended St. Sebastian's Catholic Church. My mother had her First Holy Communion there in the Church of St. Sebatians, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sunday May 6, 1934...Father O. Haertle, Pastor. I believe her Confirmation sponsor was a Mrs. Stakel--bout would have to look that up. Lorraine HOPPE, nee LINGER worked 3 days a week from 10am to 10pm teaching piano in order to clothe her family and have spending money. It was during this time that she contracted TB from one of her students. Anyway--hope some of you out there enjoyed the reminiscing, If anyone in the Milwaukee area could locate these houses and take pictures of them, it would mean so much to me... Thank you in advance, Susan snokes@tscnet.com
Vikki, They both are related to me. George MICHELS is the common ancestor for JONEN's, HOLZEM's, LINGER's (or LENGER's) and REICH's via his 3 daughters and one son...George MICHELS is my ggg-grandfather. His wife was Anna Marie THELEN--who I believe was somehow connected to the THELENS up in Belgium/Trenton area of Ozaukee County..not yet proven...but the GENGLERS are also from both areas.... Eva MICHELS married Christian LENGER Elizabetha MICHELS married Heinrich JONEN Ann MICHELS married Jacob HOLZEM and Joseph MICHELS married Anna Marie REICH Hope this helps clarify things, Susan snokes@tscnet.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <GGraf13821@aol.com> To: <WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 3:56 PM Subject: Re: [WiMilwau] New Surname Postings > Susan, > > I thought you said that the Michels were related to you. Hi Bob, Thanks for all the info. Yes, these Malischkes and Hartmanns are my family. Kathryn and Carl are my parents. I am proud to say that my family is buried in Historic Forest Home Cemetery. I may have some more questions but will mail you personally later in the week. Thanks again. Helen in Appleton WI Go Packers!!!! -----Original Message----- From: Gartzr@aol.com [mailto:Gartzr@aol.com] Sent: Friday, January 11, 2002 7:36 PM To: WIMILWAU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WiMilwau] New Surname Postings Hi fellow Appletonian, Did you know that Emil E. Hartmann is buried at historic Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee - at least an Emil E. is. Buried in the lot with the one we have are: IDA C., IDA I., A CHILD OF MARIE HARTMANN, CLARA, ANNIE, CHARLES MALISCHKE AND AGNES H. MALISCHKE. Emil bought these 8 adult graves and 4 child/cremation graves partially on Feb. 23, 1894 and the 2nd portion on May 6, 1895. After his death Mrs. Agnes H. Malischke became the lot representative and following her death, Carl Malischke was appointed as Sole Heir. Buried in lots very near are Kathryn M. Malischke and Carl Malischke in the East 1/2 of Lot 21, Block 13, Section 45. Emil's are lots 19 & 20 in Block 9, of the same Section, 45. And then there is another Charles Malischke, Paul Malischke and Elsie Stemmler and Paul Stemmler buried in Lot 11, Block 13, Section 45. If you have intererest in this I can also look up all birth dates if Funeral Director provided them to the cemetery (I have all in the Emil Lot already if you want them). In most cases I can also look up where they were born, where they died, what the cause of death was if they died before about 1930 as that is when Funeral Directors pretty much stopped providing that information to cemetery and instead just putting on the burial permit that they died of a "non-communical disease." Most often their last residence address was also given but unless you have access, that is usually not too important as Milwaukee completely changed their numbering system and even the names of some streets in the early 30's. In the Emil lot there is a monument on the lot with all but the child, Clara and Annie having footstones also. Carl & Kathryn M. have a companion stone with both names on it and all four in the other hae headstone, no monument. Carl M. bought his two graves on Frv. 2, 1980, and Pauline M. bought her 4 adult and 2 smaller graves on June 10, 1898. I am sorry, though, that I cannot provide ykou the information regarding a Caroline nor Linger. No Caroline buried with this Emil E. nor with the other Malischke burials lots and we do not get maiden name information. Emil here was born Sept. 30, 1835 and the only one close to that would be Ida C. Could that be here, going by her middle name? Let me know if there is any information more that you would like to have that I might be able to help you with. As I have posted often on this message board, I am a one-day-a-week volunteer at historic Forest Home to relieve the office staff to do the work that they were hired to do, not family history/genealogical research. Hello Susan, I don't know yet if LINGER has any connection to my Ida Caroline LINGE. Your mention of the "Washington Highlands" is interesting to me. My grandparents built a home at 6466 Upper Parkway N. in 1926. My father lived there until 1988 when he died. My siblings and I grew up in that house. Yes, I still live in WI. Hello, would like to get the address of this church, pastor names and any 'other' Evangelical churches in the Milwaukee area that I could write to for checking for old records, nice to hear at least one has some old records. . .hopefully I make a hole in my brick wall here... ..(and/or a phone number for the Evangelical Association, if there is one locally. . ) Thanks for any help!! Sincerely, Pam
Hi: In 1994 I wrote to Reverend Timothy Henning to ask about a 1 Nov 1884 marriage record for Ferdinand BENDLIN to Bertha WENZEL in particularly looking for a birthplace for Ferdinand. He said he found the record written in German and it stated Marienhof, Kr. Belgard. Is there anyone with access to this record that could and would be so kind as to make a photo copy of it for me? It is the ONLY place it's mentioned. I know this is a lot to ask and will gladly pay for any expense and give my heartfelt gratitude. Thank you, Judy
Thanks I'll give them a try again. Vikki

Last year I submitted an email request on behalf of a client asking them to search their naturalization file. I provided a VISA number and was charged. However, I never received a response from them, even after I sent two follow-up emails, each of which referenced the original information requested. For the $10 fee, I would have at least expected a response that the person was not listed in their index. The service I received from the staff when I was there in person was very good. However, the online service is spotty, to say the least. Mary Popovich Busia's Roots ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joseph J & Maxine M. Vikki, Write to them, via regular mail, and ask for a list of Genealogical Resources of the Milwaukee County Historical Society. At the end of this two page list it states what their current fee is, I think $5, for a genealogical search and $10 for census searches. The list is more detailed than this, but in general it states that they have naturalization papers, city directories, obituaries, early published histories of Milwaukee, census records, court records, probate files, coroner's inquests, biographical sketches, incorporation papers, civil war records, school census, Episcopal church records, church records, national defense program...etc. They also have the Sanborn insurance maps. 910 N.
