Hi, Will someone do a 1920 Census lookup for a Clarence BERGGREN married to a Loretta CANFIELD in Cudahy, WI. I am looking for information on their parents and children. Thanks, Pete
Hi to all, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a Frank MICHELS? Frank may have been a son of my Joseph MICHELS* and Anna Marie Reich/Reith: * Son of Geroge MICHELS and Anna Marie THELEN Soundex for Michels: M242 1900 Wisconsin, Vol 38. ED 82, Sheet 10 line 2 Joseph Michels, white, born in Feb 1851, aged 49, born in Wisconsin Mishicott Town, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin ==== Found in film T623, Roll 1797, the US Federal Census for Wisconsin, Manitowoc County, Town of Mishicott, enumerated on 1 June 1900; Suprvr Distr 3; ED 82, Sheet 10A: MICHELS, Joseph, head of household, white, male, Feb 1851 aged 49 married 21 years, born in Wisconsin, parents born: Germany/Germany, occupation: Farmer, owns-mortgaged-farm Anna, born Sept 1858, aged 41 married 21 years, children born 12, living: 9 born in Wisconsin, parents born Germany/Germany, occupation: Farmer Nicholas, Oct 1879 aged 20, single, born: Wisconsin; parents: WI/WI; occupation: blacksmith John, son, May 1883, aged 19, single, WI/WI/WI, Farm laborer Lizzie, daughter, November 1882, aged 17, single, Housework Andrew, son, March 1885, aged 15, single, at schoo-2 years Mattis, son, January 1887, aged 13, single, at school-9 years Frank, son, December 1888, aged 11, single, at school-9 years Eddie, son, April 1893, aged 7, single, Mary, daughter, April 1897, aged 3, single Peter, son, July 1899, aged 10/12, single ===Buried in Manitowoc County are: McKELVEY------------44 MICHELS-------------44-83-89D I suspect that Joseph moved back to the Waukesha County area--perhaps somewhere on Pioneer Rd (? some thing like that). I also found a few more things on the BRAHM line...not certain if they are related, Found an Albert Brahm in 1920; Anton Brahm aged 46 in 1920; Frank Brahm aged 43 in 1920 Waukesha County; and Adolph Branm, aged 34 in 1920 Census for Milwaukee. Still no leads on my Anna Marie THELEN--or who her parents are. I'm waiting for the microfilms for St. Catherine's and hoping I will find a connection there. Does any of this match with your information? Susan snokes@tscnet.com
Hello: I an ancestor living at 636 13th St from 1880-1909 time period. Any suggestions for Lutheran churches that would be that area for the time period above. Thanks Doug
Hello everyone, As per requests from some of you for more information on the 2002 NGS Conference in the States Milwaukee, Wisconsin 15-18 May 2002 Midwest Express Center 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue Here is the URL for all the information on speakers, classes etc. http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/2002cover.htm Usually we have almost 2000 genealogists, amateur and professional, attending these conferences. I learn so much when I attend these wonderful classes. The roster of speakers are top notch national lecturers and teachers. Classes are very professionally presented. It is a wonderful opportunity for those of us that are totally addicted to mingle and get to know so many people just like us! And you just might meet a cousin! I have seen it happen many times, so bring your pedigrees with you. Oh yes-and I can't forget to mention the VENDOR hall! I usually have to bring an extra EMPTY bag with me to carry ALL those great books, cd's, maps and much more home with me on the plane. My credit card hurts for many months afterwards! You just might find that one book on Milwaukee or someplace else that you have been searching for. Have I made enough of a pitch for the conference? Why don't you come join me when I get to visit Milwaukee for the first time. I can hardly wait! Marilyn (Schmalz)Fiedler ms.fiedler@att.net ps: Thanks to all who have been e-mailing me with info on where to research and some who have checked resources for me. I really appreciate it. I will be posting more on my names very soon, after a lovely little 10 month old gentleman goes home to Mama.
We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted a second image of a picture postcard of the MILWAUKEE County poorhouse. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on WISCONSIN on the table of states. Near the top of the page, you will see the link to this entry (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
Patti, Funny that you mention streetcar conductors! I am currently trying to see if there are any existing records for that same occupation in Milwaukee. On Ebay.com, Click on "Antiques", then click "Maps, Atlases" , key in Milwaukee, click to place a check in "only Maps, Atlases". I would like to know where to buy a 1910 Milwaukee street map too. If you answer Cheryl Barnett please do it on the list. I would really appreciate it. At the Hales Corners LDS they have a map of Milwaukee with the Ward's and I think ED #'s marked on it. I was told that they thought the Milwaukee Co. Geno. Soc.ldid the map and I would like to know if it is for sale somewhere? It was very helpful in locating people in the 1910 census. Does anyone know where there might be an online listing of the 1910 Milwaukee (or US) census? Genealogy.com has the 1900 census; however, that pre-dates my families arrival. Thanks for any help. Tom Wucherer Researching surnames: Wucherer, Kainz, Kroisenbacher, Kuglitsch, Grafenhauer
It looks like no one has a site for a 1910 map so here is what I have found. There is a very wonderful site for maps of all kinds and countries it is www.davidrumsey.com It appears that this man loves old maps of all kinds and has over 6,000 of them. The great map he has of Milwaukee is from 1856 but it has all the old street names before so many of them were changed about 1930 or so. In search, select keywords and type in Milwaukee. The map I really like is the one in the second view. You can zoom in and out. It even has each lot depicted when you get really up close. Have fun! I could get lost in this site all night! Hope you don't have many plans for tomorrow! Milwaukee County Probate Office... If you intent to go upstairs to the Probate Office--the index card file is available outside the clerks area and you do not need an appointment--but, again, if you want them to pull a Probate Record--you must have made an advance appointment..just like downstairs... Avoid taking shuch dangerous objects as Eyebrow tweezers, scissors, or nail files--any sharp object will be confiscated and thrown away..or you can walk back to wherever you parked your car and put them back in there--then walk back, stand in line, again, to go through the metal detector...just an FYI Susan
