Wow that is an awesome site. I like the Catholic Cemetery page and then the Milwaukee map. Great site! I'm going back to look some more - but wanted you to know. And Oh my Cameron name is so common, it makes it very hard to research. Will look at that Waukesasha site too. Hi Milwaukee Researchers: I am new to the list and wonder if you could tell me where I can get some real good sites to research. Ones that have births, deaths, cemeteries, that kind of thing. I'm looking for Dutcher and Cameron in the 1800's. Thanks for any help you can give me. Jo Ellen, I am going to ask you to do something from now on - please include some first names. I do quite a bit of research for people on this site (In fact, so much and so often that a lot of people are already sick of hearing about what I try to do) but, to be honest, if first names are not given, I skip over them. I just don't have the time to list hundreds of names in some instances. But, as you are a newbie, I will tell you what I found in my notes. To explain, I am a somewhat prolific reader of Milwaukee County and City history. As I read I write down any surnames author/editors give, and first names or initials given, any wives maiden names given and the page on which it is found. In most instances I now try to answer the person direct rather than to the Message Board because I get quite long-winded. Am told most ministers are guilty of that and I was one for over 20 years. I am also a one day a week volunteer at historic Forest Home Cemetery of Milwaukee and I know that there are Camerons buried there but have not had the opportunity as yet to research the Dutcher surname. Will do so next Friday if you want me to. So, here are the names I found in the histories re: Cameron: Historic Scrapbooks of newspaper articles at Forest Home: The Cameron Family Buck's 4-volumes: A.. Duncan C. Duncan E. Donald John E. Gregory's 4-volumes: Dr. F. J. Donald Mrs. Donald Still's 1-volume: J. E. Western Publishing large 1-volume: (Senator) Angus Archibald Bruce's 3-volumes: Frank J. Adrian Watrous's 2 volume: John E. Duncan E. Winfield H. Mrs. Winfield H. nee Julia Greer Winfield H., Jr. Mrs. Jacob Dreyer nee Angeline E. Cameron AND, for the Dutcher name: Buck: John A. Gregory: John A. Mrs. John A. George C. Mrs. George C. William E. Mrs. William E. Korn's 1-volume re: BayView: Pierpont E. Western: John A. W. Mrs. John A. Andrew (Senator) Angus Bruce: William J.A. P.E. Mrs. William nee Helen Gillick Mrs. George C. nee Margaret Nabel Meagher Mrs. (Dr.) George Dutton Ladd nee Annette A. Dutcher If any of these names are in your research area please let me know and I can tell you what they have to say. If you then want any photocopies, then the cemetery has a charge of $1.00 per name to cover photocopying costs, paper, envelope to mail and postage. I hope I am not offending anyone with so much to the message board and do try to stay away from it as much as possible now but do want to get that message of given names out so that I don't delete any requests that I might be able to help if I had them. Welcome JoEllen, The name Cameron sounds familiar. I just put up a new website for Milwaukee County. I don't have a lot of births their yet, but there are lots of links to cemeteries online. The site is at http://www.linkstothepast.com/milwaukee Cameron may also be a name on my Waukesha County site. The URL for that site is http://www.linkstothepast.com/waukesha Ellen- Waukesha County GenWeb Coordinator Milwaukee County Ancestor Collector <G> *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 2/10/02 at 7:27 PM Joellen Smart wrote: >Hi Milwaukee Researchers: > >I am new to the list and wonder if you could tell me where I can get some >real good sites to research. Katherine Milham married E. B. F. Ellis in Milwaukee on Sept 4 1874. I would appreciate a lookup in the Marriage Records for this marriage. Thanks Don
Ellen, Thank you! Very nice collection of links. I found some things I wasn't aware of--for instance the Catholic database. That might help a friend of mine with his research. Mary >>> waukesha@linkstothepast.com 02/10/02 08:33AM >>> Dear Listers, My name is Ellen and I am new to this list but a long time genealogist. Some of you may know me for my work as coordinator for Waukesha County Gen Web or as Co-Coordinator for Manitowoc County Gen Web. I want to announce the arrival of a new Genealogy Site for Milwaukee County located at http://www.linkstothepast.com/milwaukee Many of the residents of Waukesha County have ties to Milwaukee County. Frequently I run into people or references to Waukesha Families who lived, were married, born, died, had church affiliation, or were buried within Milwaukee County. Hi Susan, The Milwaukee Genealogical Society has a website and they will do one free query in their quarterly publication "The Reporter." They also will do research for you on line and they have their fee schedule and a form you can submit online. They also sell some books from this site. I just ordered Mimi Byrd's book on Granville Settlers from them. I haven't had time to receive it yet but I will let you know what happens. Here is the Milwaukee Genealogical Society website: One Free Query Request I also found another valuable website that may be of interest to the Milwaukee List. The entire Erving, Burdock & Company, Milwaukee City Directory for 1857 & 1858 can be read or downloaded from this site: Making of America Books I also used the advanced search on this site with surnames and came up with very interesting information on some family members. Good Luck In Your Searches! Cindy
I have the 1939 1940,1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 issues of "The Hilltop" from Marquette University. And the 1927, 1938 and 1939 issues of the "Cardinal Penant" from Wauwatosa High School. Willing to do look-ups in these (There are no name indices, so it might take a while). Is anyone available to do a few obituary look-ups for me in the old Milwaukee Sentinal or Journal? Thank you, Susan snokes@tscnet.com
Vikki, Please keep me posted on the Milwaukee County Geneological Society--does their newsletter include the dues/subscription and where to send it? They don't have a Web Site--at least not posted on the Milwaukee County GenWeg page... Susan snokes@tscnet.com
Vikki I guess everything is explained better at http://www.execpc.com/~mcgs/. One good thing about posting a query in the REPORTER is that it gets into P.E.R.S.I. where other researchers may find it in the future. Maxine
Hi all, I know that this is fairly recent but I now have in my possession a 1982 Wright's City Directory for the City of Milwaukee. It has the usual sections that Wright always had: An Alphabetical Listing of Surnames and Businesses, A Street Name Section with numbers of person living at that address, & a Phone Section listing the phone numbers in order and who had that number at the time. I am sure most of you, by now, have my home e-mail address so I would prefer you e-mail me directly if you have a look-up you would like me to do but, if not, I will get it here also. Vikki If you mean a query , the instructions are in the REPORTER, their "magazine". If you mean how to get someone from there to do look ups for you, write a personal letter to one of the officers listed on the inside cover of the REPORTER. I think that is how I "met" a few people who did look ups for me. Some were paid some were not. Would you look for Douglas Grant Ebert, Geraldine Ebert, and Robert Baldwin Ebert. I know Doug went to Marquette, he may have started before The War and finished after. I'm not sure where his siblings went to school. I would appreciate a lookup in the 1870 Milwaukee census for the surname MILHAM. The family I am researching includes : William, Maria & children Edward, Mary Abbie, Eliza and Sarah. I would also like to know if there were any other Milham families listed. Thank you Don
A while back I answered someone who asked if it was worth it to join the Milwaukee Genealogy Society. I said that I wasn't happy with them because I never received the newsletters that they were supposed to send and that I didn't know how to do requests to them. Well I received a newsletter this month and as I was digging around my genealogy piles I found a newsletter from a couple of months ago. I shouldn't have spoken so soon. Now if I can just learn how to make those requests. Vikki
I wonder if there might be someone on the list, that lives in the Milwaukee area, that might consider doing a couple of birth & death records look-ups & get copies? Please contact me off list if you can help. Thank-you, Peggy rpmrazik@msn.com These ancestors are deceased. Would these records even be available? Milwaukee County 2 (Birth years) one in 1926 one in 1930 2 (Death years) one in 1964 one in 1970
Hello, Not sure what you're name is, but wondering if you wouldn't mind giving me the contact information for this pastor , I would like to try to find some records from possibly the Evangelical Lutheran church there. . . did your Ferdinand attend that church or was there another reason to contact this pastor?? And how long did it take him to respond?? And do you know if he has email? And, last question, what part of Milwaukee is this in(if you know). Thanks so much for your time!!
