They had 2 children which I know of: Barbara Frenks: September 15, 1854 and Johann Frenks: April 27, 1857...likely more children, but I haven't located them, yet. Hoping someone might be researching these lines, Susan snokes@tscnet.com

    3. I wonder if they list the "owner" of the plot in the index? They should still have all the names. When I've visited various cemeteries, they will have the names with the plot, which works out if the last name is the same for everyone on the plot. >>> "Richard A. 2. Ellen (Genealogy)
    3. Jenny, To the best of my knowledge on the Catholic Cemeteries have a master database. There are several other cemeteries that have databases as well. If you visit my website....www.linkstothepast.com/milwaukee and click on the cemetery transcriptions, I have a list of cemeteries in Milwaukee County. Those that have entries or a database associated with it are linked. I have a search on my site, so if it is a name that I transcribed or was sent to me via an obit, the name will come up in the search. Any of the names in one of the offsite links will not come up in the search. Hope that helps. Good luck in your search, and Pre-Welcome to Milwaukee. 3. Hi all, Is there an surname index for Milwaukee county that includes all cemeteries or are there just individual indexes for each cemetery? I'm going to be in Milwaukee for the NGS conference and I'd like to be able to get some pictures of gravestones for my RESCHLEIN relatives. However, I'm not sure where people are buried and the few obits I've been able to find aren't much help. I've thought about trying to get death certificates, however it appears this can take a very long time and I probably won't get them in time for the conference. Any ideas? Thanks, Jenny

    1. [WiMilwau] Janesville Plank Rd. cemetery
    2. Early records from St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Milwaukee indicate that some of their parishioners were buried at the Janesville Plank Road cemetery. Would that be Pilgrim's Rest cemetery, Forest Home cemetery or another unnamed cemetery that might have been moved? Thank you. Eileen

    1. Re: [WiMilwau] Graceland Cemetary
    2. Mary Frank
    3. You can get maps from them, though the newest part of Union is not on the map I picked up. I found the staff weren't very friendly or helpful. However, I found my great-grandparents and my gg-grandparents at Union by tracking down the cemetary records on microfilm here at UWM. The plot numbers are located on the microfilm, and using the map from the cemetary, I was able to find the graves. (When I had contacted them earlier by phone, they didn't do an adequate job of checking, and gave me the name of a Georg Frank with some other last name, rather than the George Frank who was my gg-grandpa.) I think I've got people in the newer part, too, so I'll probably have to traipse back out to Graceland to find out if there is any kind of map for the newer part of Union. I'd volunteer to look this up for you, but I'm getting quite a stack of obituaries to look up, so I don't want to overextend by promising to do Union cemetary lookups at this point. If you send me the information, I could put them on my list, if you're willing to wait awhile. I have a soft spot in my heart for Union Cemetary, since it's got my people in it, and it's only 1.5 miles from my house. I even did the "genealogy thing" by having my friend photograph me with the grave stones of my people who are buried there. Union is a beautiful old cemetary, though it is now in a segregated part of the City and most white people won't go there. Not being like most white people, I went in there and had a beautiful experience when I went back to get photographed. I found 5 young men in their 20's and 30's standing in a semi-circle around a grave right next to my gg-gpa's grave. The young men were visiting their mother/grandmother who had died a few months earlier. They had brought a little wind chime to hang next to her grave. It was very sweet and moving experience to meet and speak with them. Mary >>> "Pam Gosling" <pgosl@ev1.net> 04/01/02 05:29PM >>> Hello, I wanted to get an update on the status of Graceland/Union cemetary, and how to get burial information from there. .. last year, Bob graciously mentioned that it was very difficult to get information from there, due to the poor environs, and that the staff is not able to check for information easily if we call for requests. Now, I know I have relatives buried there, and don't see them on any of the cemetary lists so far, so looking for suggestions as to how to proceed. . .do we pay a researcher?? Or will they answer a letter?? Any leads for info would be appreciated. Thank you all for such a great list!! It became Wood Hospital and Grounds and now is known as the Clement Zablocki Veteran's Hospital. 1. [WiMilwau] Graceland Cemetary
    2. Pam Gosling
    3. Hello, I wanted to get an update on the status of Graceland/Union cemetary, and how to get burial information from there. .. last year, Bob graciously mentioned that it was very difficult to get information from there, due to the poor environs, and that the staff is not able to check for information easily if we call for requests. Now, I know I have relatives buried there, and don't see them on any of the cemetary lists so far, so looking for suggestions as to how to proceed. . .do we pay a researcher?? Or will they answer a letter?? Any leads for info would be appreciated. Thank you all for such a great list!! 1. [WiMilwau] Soldiers' home
    2. Barbara Zanzig
    3. Hi, I have a family report that a family member died in a soldiers' home near Milwaukee. I know his name but don't think that would help -- would anyone have any idea what this is talking about? I think the man was born in 1879 or 1892, so it was probably mid-1900s. Thanks, Barbara Barbara Zanzig hertz@isomedia.com

    1. [WiMilwau] Newspaper lookup
    2. c lindau
    3. Hi--this not really a genealogical lookup request, but please hear me out. I recently learned from my allumni newsletter that a friend of mine from college died last July. Using the SSDI I found that he last lived in Milwaukee. Online obit searches of Milwaukee and Madison newspapers turned up nothing. Could someone with access to last summer's Milwaukee/West Allis/Madison newspapers be willing to see if there is an obituary in one of these papers for him? I would be very grateful. Email me off list if a lookup is possible, and I will provide the name and death date then. Thanks Cindy Lindau UW-Stevens Point Class of '79

    3. Mary: Thanks for your help. I looked at the list and there sure are a lot of newspapers. If you're looking up obits around that time, maybe you could look up Murdoch and Mary. I've wondered if the clerk I talked to didn't do a thorough job. Thanks. 1. Re: [WiMilwau] CEMETERIES
    2. Good morning, Saw your query re: the Hollister surname. I can't answer your query about Baptist Churches in the area but I highly doubt any from that era would still be around unless it would be in downtown Milwaukee. I was a Lutheran minister and none of my denomination are still around that I know of except three in downtown Milwaukee from that era. Regarding the HOLLISTER surname, do you have any given names. About that time Waukesha County was still a part of Milwaukee County. Many people from Waukesha, therefore had burials made where I do research for families, historic Forest Home Cemetery where most of the "big" names of early Milwaukee History are buried. I also do quite a bit of reading into Milwaukee County History which falls over into what is not Waukesha County also but only back in the early days before the division into two counties. One of the most well-known persons with that surname is DAVID STEPHEN HOLLISTER. Others that I wrote down their names and page numbers from the 20 volumes of Milwaukee History that I have read are: MRS. DAVID STEPHEN, MISS ELIZA, JUNIUS S., MRS. JUNIUS W., MRS. MARY, MARY ELLEN, JOSEPH, STEPHEN, O.J. and I am sure there would be more as this is from just two of the series of the volumes that I have read. Friday, the day I donate at Forest Home I will also look into our burial records there. Would appreciate any given names, though, that you might have. Bob of Brookfield

    1. [WiMilwau] finding your state senator
    2. Ashley Tiwara
    3. In the matter of writing your state senator about the Historical Society, or about any other matters, you may want to try this address first: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/waml/ The address above will help you identify your state senator and also your state representative. It works even if you don't allow cookies or type in the exact address, but be aware that districts will change sometimes on opposite sides of the street. http://www.legis.state.wi.us/leginfo/senmail.html#7 This address above has hot links to the different senators, listed alphabetically by last name. A note from you in the matter of the axe taken to the Historical Society's budget may be the determining straw for the febrile legislator you contact. Thanks for considering sending a message to one of these influential people, Ashley --
