    1. Re: [WiMilwau] Rheinfrils, Germany
    2. It is probably a misspelling of Rhein-Pfalz. It is in western Germany. It is an area rather than a town. Look at a curent map and you will see a "land" or "Bundesland" (state) called Rheinland-Pfalz. You'll be in the area. I cannot give you definite boundaries; besides these moved at times. 3. Shelly, We have been out of town for a while so I hope this isn't too late, Several years ago before I was working on the internet I rescued some old photos and I wrote to the Milwaukee County Historical Society to see if they wanted them. I think that many people who have family in the area would go there for help. Anyway, they said they had some information on that family name and would be happy to have them. I mailed them to the Society and ...sad to say....they never received them. They were lost in the mail. So if I were you, I would write to the Society and if they want them ...considering no one else has come forward in the family to claim them....I would mail them and make sure they get them. This was over 15 years ago and several of pieces of our mail were lost at that time. You are very good to rescue them. Don't we all wish for that elusive relative to turn up in a photo somewhere? Happy New Year to you. Maxine Capezza At 10:42 PM 12/16/2004, you wrote: >I've "rescued" a group of three old photographs all belonging to the MORGAN >Family. 1. lookups
    2. Peterson, Jim and Karen
    3. Hello everyone, It's that time of the year again that I do lookups at the libraries. I'm not sure when I'm going again but it will be sometime in the near future. If you have a few items you want looked up at UWM, please email me a this time. No long lists please. Please exhaust all online resources (ancestry.com, WI death index, etc) and include all forms of the last name with all data. I do not do genealogy research - I will lookup the appropriate info based upon the libraries resources. If you are not sure what resources UWM - Golda Meir library has, check out their website for their archives holdings. There is no cost for a lookup unless you want a copy of the resource. Microfilm copies are 25 cents currently. The main resources are the pre 1907 birth, death & marriage records (pass along the vol, page etc from ancestry.com), probate index, obits, etc. For obits, I need the death or burial dates. If you use the archdiocese records as a reference, note that Calvary cemetery maintains BURIAL DATES, not death dates. Holy Cross maintains death dates. If you are unsure if its a death or burial date, list the cemetery. If you want a probate index lookup, include all spellings of the surname with your request (don't ask me again with a different spelling). There are some county indexes for deaths, marriages (see library resources) that might help if you can't find a pre 1907 index entry at ancestry.com. The date ranges are different for different types of records. Information about the archives can be found at http://www.uwm.edu/Libraries/arch/ Note, I only use the microfilm references, not paper, book, etc, references. Those are located in a different part of the library that usually isn't open when I go. UWM doesn't have naturalization records for Milwaukee County. You will have get those at the GS in Milwaukee. If you have a general question about references, resources, etc, etc, post a question to the list and I'm sure me or someone else can help you find your way! Happy New Year to all! Karen

    3. Remember, it was rare for a woman to naturalize before 1920 because the main benefit of naturalization, eligibility to vote, was not applicable to women until 1920. Pre-1906 naturalization records in Milwaukee County usually contain very little information on the person's family. Having said that, I can probably get to the Historical Society sometime in the next couple of weeks and check for sure. 3. Laura, I am also interested in ancestors who came from Switzerland...They settled first in Wonewoc, Juneau, Wisconsin ...I wonder where the Declarations of Intent and Naturalizations would be for Juneau County around 1871?? I'd like to locate William HERZOG's Declaration of Intent or his Naturalization. I'm hoping it will be on one of these films: Title Juneau County (Wis.) naturalization records (1852-1929) and indexes (1849-1957) --, 1849-1957 Authors Wisconsin. 1. Re: [WiMilwau] Military Records
    2. Have you considered a spelling snafu? In the indices, my g-g-grandfather was listed as Weir----- when his name really began with Wier----- a small but significant error, puting him on an earlier page than I was searching. I just happened to catch that incorrect spelling by chance. Anyway, I did find quite a lot about him, once I finally found how his name was recorded. In the actual records, it was correctly spelled. So, you might consider alternate spellings and look into them Bill in Denver

    3. Can anyone explain to me why there is no record for my Great Great Grandfather listed in the civil war with the Military? I have found several pieces of information stating the company, infantry, state and year enlisted and even wounded - but the government can find no record of my ancestor. Was there a fire? Laura
