Hi Lenora - I am not researching the Flynn family, but I have a little information that might be of help. My grandfather owned a summer home on Lake Keesus a couple of miles from Merton, and I spent many, many, many happy summers there. Though it was long after the 1898-1899 time period, I knew the Merton area very well. My grandfather died in 1942, and after that my aunt took care of paying taxes etc. on the house, keeping a small and very old notebook of her records. The Mary Flynn name rang a bell when I saw your post, so I checked it out. I found that, in 1942, a Mary Flynn was the Treasurer of North Lake -- I assume the town of North Lake. Perhaps you could check records there. A Flynn family also owned property on Lake Keesus back in my time there -- 1930's thru 1950's. I am researching some of my husband's relatives from Menomonee Falls -- Faber, Henrizi, Leonhardt. If you should ever come across those names in your research, I would appreciate hearing from you. I notice your maiden name was Weber. Did your family own that lovely farm that was just on the edge of the town of Merton many years ago? If we can exchange information, please contact me directly. Have a good day. Thank you Mary, that was some good info, it is helping me. Wendy in Redding, California -----Original Message----- From: Mary R. I've used it a number of times to find oddball spellings. It takes some time, and some repetitive searching, but it's worth results, right? In Ancestry.com, go to the ADVANCED search screen. Type Ant* into the First Name field. (* is a "wild card" and that way you get any name that starts with Ant. You must use three letters, though, as it doesn't work with 2 or 1 and the *). Then in the last name, type Tuchalski Then in the Spelling box, click on Soundex. Leave When Did They Live? blank Leave Keywords blank (if you put Milwaukee in this field, it will further limit your results, but I don't recommend that unless you're pretty certain they were in Milwaukee) Under Where Did They Live? select United States and Wisconsin Under Advanced Options, select Census Then hit Search and you'll get names that sound similar to Tuchalski and whose first names start with Ant*. If that doesn't bring the one you need, try the rest of the vowels (in case the Soundex doesn't quite "hear" them the same way): So... First I searched for Tuchalski, Ant* Then I searched for Tachalski, Ant* Then I searched for Techalski, Ant* Then I searched fro Tichalski, Ant* Then I searched for Tocholski, Ant* If this doesn't pan out, then you need to get systematic. Start at the beginning of the alphabet and substitute CONSONANTS at the beginning of the name, So I tried Buchalski, Ant* and I got lucky. If that had not worked (using Ba, Be, Bi, Bo, Bu), I would have tried Ca, Ce, etc. Sometimes you might want to just try the consonants that might sound the most like the one you're looking for. But as in the case today, it wasn't a problem with how the census taker recorded it, it was that the page was too faded for the transcriber to see, so s/he guessed at Bichalski. Shelley, There's also a website called www.deadfred.com where you can post old photographs. I found several photos of my grandmother there. I need some suggestions on my next step. I think I found some ancestors on an immigration passenger list, but I need to confirm it. Hello, I'm hoping to find a nice helping hand who could assist me with the following Baumle family members born in Milwaukee. The database I checked shows their birth dates, but not the name of the parents. I didn't find them in census records so I assume they died sometime between two censuses. What I need is the name of their parents or at least the name of the father (Leopold Baumle?). Baumle, Baeumle, (Baenmle) -John, b. 10 Feb 1850 -Michael, b. 03 Nov 1881 -William, b. 06 Feb 1886 -Hermine, b. 10 May 1894 -Hermine, b. 14 Nov 1895 -Mary E. , b. 24 Apr 1896 -Gertrude E., b. 16 May 1897 Thanks a lot for any info you may be able to supply. I highly assume that these are children of a Baeumle family in Milwaukee which is related to me. Andreas
Donna, Thank you. I have most of what you shared. Thank you for checking though. Thank you too for checking the census for me. They're there some where, I just need to figure out where and what that last name spelling is. Have a nice night, Rhonda
