I need the parent of Wenzel and Theckla Haberman or Haverman of Bohemia. I would love a record of a naturalization record or marriage of Wenzeslaus and Theckla Haberman or Havermann. born abt. 1796 immigrated here and settled in Jefferson County. The entire family is there. Wenzel and Teckla - child - Aloisious or Alois (Male) Alois & wife - child - Max (Max is my Great Grandfather) I am at work and without my notes for more precise info. If you can find something that would be great. Thank you for your efforts. I don't know if this will help but, my family came to Milwaukee about 1873 from Bohemia. They were Roman Catholic. lived on 252 4th street. My grandparents were married in St Mary's Catholic church in 1875. The Church burned, but the records have been kept. Try the Catholic records in Milwaukee. Betty
Is there or was there a Lutheran church in the area of 10th and Walnut around 1892? If there was and it moved could someone let me know the name of the church and where it's located today? Or perhaps the records from this church have been sent to some archive and would anyone know where I would write to? I would appreciate any and all the help that is sent to me. I originally sent this reply to Maxine, but figured I'd send it to the board, also. I'm not sure what caused the English to move to Walworth County. But, what I've found out about the people that did move to Walworth County, from surname "profiles", off theWalworth County boards, is alot of people from Vermont and New York, seemed to populate, this county in WI. It made for wonderful abundant farming. I grew up on self sufficient dairy farms, mostly in the East Troy area. So, the land would be a draw for farmers. I'm sure there were real estate people that would leave vertisements for the various part of the state, boasting of good soil, temperate climate, abundance of natural water, lots of natural springs in this area and the lakes. In Walworth County, there seems to be a lake every few miles. The land is fairly flat, compared to say Green County, where the Swiss settled, because it reminded the of the hills that were below the mountains, in the Canton of Glarus. We visited the Canton of Glarus, while overseas. My Husband is from Monticello, by New Glarus and Monroe. The farm land over there is very similar to what it is in WI. Then there are "relatives". The first ones over, would go to a certain area, then the 2nd batch of relatives would come and settle. At least that seems to be what my families did. Cindy
I wondered if anyone could do a lookup for me in the 1885-1899 Milwaukee City Directory for Peter Burg and wife Emma

Is there someone on this list who does lookups for obits? If there is, I'd be deeply greatful if you could pull the obits for: Salvatore Palisi, b. 18 November 1843, d. Milwaukee, WI, d. unknown James Palise d. September 1969. His real name was Biaggio Palisi, born New Orleans. His name has been found as James Biggio Palisi, James Palise. Michael Palise b. 05 August 1897, Milwaukee, d. 16 August 1971, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. James and Michael's parents were Salvatore Palisi and Antonina DiVincenzo, both from Italy (Chiusa Sclafani, Palermo). Salvatore and Antonina had six children, but I only know the dates of death for two of the children (listed above). The children are: 1) Biaggio Palisi (aka James Palise) b. New Orleans 11 March 1888 2) Giuseppe Palisi b. New Orleans 21 July 1891 3) Francesca Palisi (aka Frances) b. New Orleans 11 September 1893 4) Antonino Palisi b. New Orleans 19 October 1895 5) Michael Palise b. Milwaukee 05 Aug 1897 6) Julia Palise b. Milwaukee 21 Jan 1903 The above Salvatore is my great-great grandfather's brother who left N.O. and moved his family to Milwaukee. I just found this morning on the censuses this Salvatore and family..I've been scouring the censuses everywhere for several years, and I found it, finally. Many, many, many thanks if anyone responds! Regards, Frankie Palisi, New Orleans. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Small Business - Try our new resources site! http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/resources/
Hi, I am hoping someone will look up city directories for below individuals. Does a Franz or Frank Fuhrmann show up in any Milwaukee City Directories from 1877 up to 1885 as possibly a carpenter or a cabinet maker or a shoemaker? He resided at 620 Hubbard St 6th Ward prior to Nov 1879 marriage. Trying to determine WHEN Franz /Frank Fuhrman(n) died. Did Mina work in her fathers Tailor shop (Otto Frey) prior to marriage Nov 1879? Is she listed in 1880 & later as a Frey or a Fuhrman(n)? How many years after is she listed? Does it show a child in household born 1880-1881 as belonging to Mina? Both Frank & Mina were born around 1860. Mina could be listed as Wilhelmina Johanna Dorothea Frey? Thank you so much, Kathy
From the Milwaukee Journal, March 2, 2005 This will be of interest to those who had ancestors in the northern cities of Milwaukee County. There is no contact information for the group, but I'll keep my eyes open for follow-up information. mrf North Shore Historical Society to hold meeting History buffs have formed a new organization, the North Shore Historical Society, and will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. March 14 at the North Shore Library, 6800 N. Port Washington Road, Glendale. The group defines the North Shore as Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Glendale, Brown Deer, Bayside, Fox Point and River Hills. Of those, only Brown Deer and Shorewood have active historical societies, said Alan Eisenberg, a spokesman for the group. The group does not intend to supplant existing organizations but to share information and gather pictures, artifacts and other items of interest. The group will be looking for a place to display its finds. Eisenberg said the group hopes to establish a Web site and conduct "virtual historical tours" and plans to offer a tour of historical North Shore places sometime this summer.
Can anyone from the Milwaukee area, with knowledge of the Milw Historical Society tell me what kind of old vintage photos they have in their collection. 1) How does one go about a search? 2) If I go there in person, can I review the photos myself? 3) Are all the photos named? 4) I am seeking family photos of the PISZCZEK family who lived in Milwaukee from 1900-1915. Any help here appreciated. Thanks, gloria
Did they come from New York State? to Walworth County, Wisconsin? Another drawing place was in Waukesha and Jefferson County--same English/Welsh ancestry....there was excellent farmland, hunting and woods (to build homes with)..also the railroad ran through that area making it easy to ship goods. I grew up in the area...this is what I remember being said about the reasons they settled there. Go to the website I listed. I just noticed the last map on that page shows all the neighborhoods, clearly labelled and with boundaries marked. I wasn't sure exactly where the Brewer's Hill neighborhood started and ended. It is at the SW corner of Riverwest and below Harambee. Here's the specfic map: http://www.uwm.edu/Library/digilib/Milwaukee/maps/mke_neighborhoods.sid Here's the main page with a bunch of maps: http://www.uwm.edu/Library/digilib/Milwaukee/records/maps.html You need to download MrSid/ExpressView Browser to be able to zoom and pan the maps. There is a link in the "View descriptive record" portion under each map Joe & Maxine Capezza wrote: > Where is that in relation to what I think they now call "Brewer's Hill"? > > At 06:13 PM 3/3/2005, you wrote: > >> In a message dated 3/3/05 6:36:25 PM Eastern Standard Time, >> [email protected] >> writes: >> >> >> > This is the part of Milwaukee known as Riverwest.
