    2. GM's antediluvian words to Bill Gates _______________________________________________ Subject: [WiMilwau] most useful tool award Date: 3/17/2005 8:08:26 P.M. Central Standard Time From: [email protected] Reply To: [email protected] Message Sorry, I apologize in advance. Couldn't resist. Very very spaceheadedly, Ashley > For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection > for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on..... ________________________________________________ Ashley, etc.-- looks like these words of wisdom from "General Motors" (?!) have some legs to them. But so what? They're still very funny (even if their connection to Milwaukee might be very subtle). Thanks. ..........John Q. _http://www.elists.org/pipermail/lugga/2000-July/000523.html_ (http://www.elists.org/pipermail/lugga/2000-July/000523.html) From: Sammy Roberson Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2000 11:28 AM Subject: Bill Gates & GM At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If General Motors had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics: 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You'd just calmly accept this, restart your car, and then drive on. 4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to be shut down and refuse to restart. Then, you'd have to reinstall the engine. 5. Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT". But then you'd have to buy more seats. 6. Apple Computer would make a car that was solar powered, more reliable, five times faster and twice as easy to drive, but would only run on 5% of the roads. 7. The oil, water, temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "General Car Default" warning light. 8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt. 9. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before activating. 10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you back in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of McNally Road maps (now a GM subsidiary) even though they'd neither want nor need them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately diminish the car's performance by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Department. 12. Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as before. 13. You'd press the "Start" button to shut off your engine.

    3. Is there or was there a Lutheran church in the area of 10th and Walnut around 1892? If there was and it moved could someone let me know the name of the church and where it's located today? Or perhaps the records from this church have been sent to some archive and would anyone know where I would write to? I would appreciate any and all the help that is sent to me. Thank you, Sharon Peot __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Consider an Easter thank you in your plans for spending your tax return, or a thank you for having sufficient money to pay the taxes you owe. Ashley ----- Original Message ----- From: Ellis Island Online Seven billion hits in four years at www.EllisIsland.org! That's a lot of work for a website, especially for a non-profit website. And we do it free of charge for you! You can't find many websites like this one out there. But www.EllisIsland.org needs your help today. etc. Today, for the first time ever, we are asking Ellis Island Online site registrants for their direct help. Why? Because it is not a commercial site, and as a non-profit we are dependent on the public to help fund this project. Government does not fund this. Generous users like you can, however. And we hope you will. As you can imagine, at seven billion hits and growing every day, Ellis Island Online is a pretty expensive service to continue to provide for free. 3. I don't know. There is no date. There is no zip code for any of the addresses. A telephone number for a concrete business in Jefferson is 888-W. In Fort Atkinson a number is Jordan 3-4951. Television is out and there is an advertisement for Rambler Cars. So my guess would be the late 50's or 1960's. Evelyn

    1. Re: WEHMEYER in Milwaukee, Wi.
    2. Roy, Now I'm surprised! You went to school with my father who graduated in 1947 from Bay View High School, Emil HAMMERLING. He played football at Bay View. You also lived near my mothers RICE family..Rice Brothers Cartage was their business at 736 Lincoln Ave. I've found several photo's of you, and will email them to you personally unless you would like copies mailed directly to you. Please contact me off-list for this. Also found a Ruth Lachmund in 1947. Haven't found a WEHMEYER yet, but will finish up looking tomarrow. Sally HELLO SALLY. I got your message this morning and was very surprised. I graduated in 1946 and the children are a few years younger than myself, Which would be about late 1040s or early 1950s. I don't have an age on the children. If you wont to look me up, I graduated in Jan. 1946, so I would be in both the 46 & 47 year book, I think. I am ROY H. LACHMUND and would also be under the STAGE CREW. I lived about 5 blocks from the corner of K.K, LINCON & HOWEL. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INTREST.

    3. Lenora, Could you ask the Register of Deeds if they have a Platt map book for the area surrounding the town of Jefferson between the years of November 1868--- 27 July 1870...or a land purchase from either a George MICHEL(S) or wife/widow Anna Marie (MICHEL(S) or a son Joseph MICHEL(S) to another person during that time-frame? I am trying to locate the farm on which George, wife Anna Marie, and son Joseph MICHEL(S) lived on between November 1868--- 27 July 1870...They moved to Jefferson County after the 1860 US Federal Census. George may be buried on that farm... Perhaps it may be best to print out this info and take it with you to the courthouse... I will be happy to pay copy costs/postage and what you would like for your time--up to $30.00.
