Hello Listers, Thanks to the help of many people from these lists, especially Bob D., Kathy Lisai, Pam Long, Jan J., Wm. Voss, Allen Gray, Mary Ellen Z., Maude LeBlanc, Amy Davis and Cece Bibby, I have made what I think is a major discovery in my WORTH-PALMER line. Please forgive my ramblings, but sometimes it helps to talk it out. This whole thing started when I was looking up info on Marium (WORTH) CLARK for another researcher. I put her name into the newspaper archive I subscribe to. There was a newspaper article that had the same photograph that I have on my dining room wall. I knew some of the people on the photo, but not all. This article named everyone in the photo. (This was a major discovery in itself!) Well, the photo has Marium (WORTH) CLARK sitting in the middle and next to her is H.J.G. PALMER (this happens to be my gg-grandfather - who I had never seen!) (Another major discovery) Any how, it states that H.J. G. PALMER is the brother-in-law of Marium (WORTH) CLARK. HUH? I was totally puzzled??? I had done a little research on both families, but never put them together... Here's what I know and have semi-proof of: Lydia WORTH b. about 1808 (give or take) married Robert HUNKINS in April 1831 and lived in Derby Vermont. They had 3 children in Vermont and 1 more in 1840 after they arrived in Wisconsin. Robert HUNKINS died February 25, 1845 in Wisconsin. (This information comes from "Genealogical records of the Robert Hastings Hunkins family," by Hunkins, Hazen Hendricks, Los Angeles, Calif.: unknown, 1961, 58 pgs.) On December 1, 1846 in New Berlin, (at the time, Milwaukee County, but now Waukesha County) Wisconsin, Havilah (H.J.G.) PALMER married Mrs. Lydia Louise HUNKINS. (I have the marriage license) They raised Robert HUNKINS' children and had two more of their own - Theodore, who died young, and Mary - my g-grandmother. (Info from the 1850 and 1860 Federal Census for New Berlin, Waukesha County, Wisconsin and Waukesha, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, respectively.) O.K. here's where things start to get even more complicated. O.K. According to "The genealogical History of the CLARK and WORTH Families" by Carol Clark Johnson, Lydia and Marium WORTH are daughters of Joseph and Mary "Polly" (SAWYER) WORTH. According to this book, Joseph WORTH's 1st marriage was to Susan TAPLIN. They had a son named Jacob WORTH who married Lucinda DANFORTH. They had a son named Taplin Johnson WORTH. Their son Taplin, was born in Stanstead, October 6, 1828, and died September 8, 1904, at the home of his sister Mrs. Lydia GRAY in Holland Vermont.(Page 255) Well, now, wait a minute, did Jacob and Lucinda WORTH have a daughter named Lydia? I'm working backwards here... In the 1900 Census for Holland, Orleans County, Vermont there is a George and Lydia GRAY. This Lydia was born in 1842 - , this is WAY too young to be MY Lydia born about 1808. If you look at the 1900 census for Holland, Orleans County, Vermont, there is a Levi WORTH living a few houses above George and Lydia GRAY. There is a boarder there who I THINK is supposed to be Taplin GRAY, but it looks as if his last name is BENNETT. The last name under Levi WORTH, I BELIEVE is supposed to be Taplin GRAY. I don't have access to the 1890 or 1880 Censuses, but in the 1870 Federal Census for Holland, Orleans County, Vermont there is a Merrill/Morrill GRAY and he lives right next door to Taplin GRAY. Living with Morrill GRAY are George and Lydia GRAY. Again this Lydia was born about 1844 which is WAY too young to be MY Lydia. In 1860 I find Morrill GRAY with a son named George born about 1845. Also in 1860 in Holland, Orleans County, Vermont is Jacob and Lucinda WORTH with a daughter named Lydia born about 1843. Living next to them is Taplin WORTH. Can you see where I'm going with this? It's my THEORY that the Lydia who married George GRAY and lived in Holland, Orleans County is actually the daughter of Jacob and Lucinda (DANFORTH) GRAY, not the Lydia who was the daughter of Joseph and Mary "Polly" (SAWYER) WORTH. By a strange co-incidence, there IS a Lydia born about 1804 who married a George GRAY and lived in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire. But according to the 1850 Federal Census for Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire. they have a Polly BARDEN living with them aged 80. This Lydia is the daughter of Frederick and Polly (CROSSMAN) BARDEN. So, that crosses her off my list... It's my theory that Ms. JOHNSON or whoever typed her manuscript confused the two Lydia's. The Lydia who married Mr. GRAY and lived in Holland, Vermont was really the daughter of Jacob and Lucinda (DANFORTH) WORTH and NOT the daughter of Joseph and Mary "Polly" (SAWYER) WORTH. Lydia WORTH, daughter of Joseph and Mary (SAWYER) WORTH married Robert HUNKINS, moved to Wisconsin, and later married H.J.G. PALMER. Now, all I have to do is prove it!!! Any suggestions? Hopefully you're not too confused by all my ramblings. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me. Isn't it funny how one major breakthrough leads to many, many more questions? Kay R
The Wild Rose Museum will open June 15, 2005 at 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. If you are not there by 3:00 PM, you will be too late because the last tour starts at 3:00 and if no one is there the volunteers close for the day. The Museum is open in the summer on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. It closes the Saturday before Labor Day. The museum has the Elisha Stewart house, the barn & blacksmith shop, a one room school, the smoke house, the carriage house, Pioneer Hall, The weaving room, the General store, and a gift shop. You can see the bank that the 1905 robbers failed to rob, complete with the dented dial from the safe. You can also return July 16th for the reenactment. The following website gives directions to the museum http://www.1wisconsin.com/wildrose/Museum/museum.htm . This is an inexpensive way to spend an afternoon as admission is $1 for adults and fifty cents for children. Pam Anderson, President of The Wild Rose Historical Society

Susan, the name of Wanderer's Rest is now Lincoln Memorial. Bob s
Michelle, I think you and I have corresponded in the past...I am the "other" HOPPE Researcher with family in the Milwaukee area. I just got back from vacation and am 1200 e-mails behind..so after catch-up, I'll see if I have added anything new which may connect our lines....mine come from Kreis Greifenberg; Pomerania. Many are buried at Wanderer's Rest in Milwaukee (It has a different name now-can't think of what the new name for this old cemetery changed to.) I live in Washington State and will not likely be returning to Wisconsin...where do you live? Is anyone familiar with Fred Zimmer (Nov. 1879), s/o Charles Zimmer and Ernstina John? I'm curious what happened to him and his wife, Alma Lemke. They had a son, Fred b. 1906 in Milwaukee, not sure whom he married. Fred and Alma lived on 24th Street in 1920, and 45th Street in 1930. ~Michelle
Hi, I'm researching the Hoppe family from Germany. Wilhelm Hoppe b. 7/14/1839 in Germany, immigrating in July 1873. He married Augusta BUBLITZ in Milwaukee, WI 7/16/ 1874 a year after arriving in Wisconsin. At this time it's believed that Wilhelm immigrated with his daughter, Anna Caroline Auguste Hoppe b. April 9, 1872. Wilhelm is the s/o Wilhelm and Josephine EBERT. He has one known sister; Anna Friederike Caroline b. Dec. 1841 in Germany. She married Johann Christian Frederick PETERS in Milwaukee. Wilhelm and Augusta's children: Martha, Robert, and Bertha. 1. Anna Married Rudolph Ludwig Ferdinand KROLL. They had the following children: Henry, Adeline, Harry, Herbert, Lilly, Clarence, Ester, and Roy. 2. Martha married Paul R. KROENING and had the following children: Martha, Arthur, and Laura. 3. Robert F. married (first) Anna C. RAEDLEIN and (second) Rose SCHMIDT. Robert and Anna children: Gerald, Herbert, and Leona. Rose and Robert had no children together. 4. Bertha married John LEMKE. They had the following children: Viola, Lawrence, Clarence (twins), and Hazel. Does anyone have a connection to this family group? I'd like to share info. Thanks, ~Michelle
I was wondering if there is anyone that could look up an obituary in the German newspaper in Milwaukee? The name I'm looking for is Charlotte Koepke and she died February 22, 1916. I looked in the Milwaukee Journal and there wasn't a listing for her with the other obituaries and so I figured because she was German it might be in one of the German papers. I would pay for your time and expenses. Please contact me at my email address. Thank you, Sharon Peot __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I've "rescued" an old autograph album which originally belonged to Whitney WALL. The album was given to him as a gift in 1875 and includes entries from both family and friends from 1875 to 1880 including locations in both Wisconsin and Illinois. The album contains the following entries: Whitney WALL Autograph Book from Tina, Xmas 1875 Family: · James C. WALL, 24 Dec 1875, Milwaukee, WI · C.H. WALL, 30 Dec 1875 · Edward C. WALL, 31 Dec 1875 Your Brother · E.M. OGDEN, 31 Dec 1875 · F.L. OGDEN, 1 Jan 1876 · David B. OGDEN, 8 Dec 1880, Rock Island, IL Your Nephew · Alexander MACKENZIE · Lucia A. MACKENZIE Based on limited research I was able to locate Whitney WALL (male) age 16, born in WI living in Rock Island, IL with his sister Lucia WALL MCKINZIE and her husband Alexander MCKINZIE. The household included Alexander age 36, born in WI to parents born in Scotland and NY respectively, his wife Lucia age 36 born in IL to parents born in Maryland and VT respectively, and three of their children. Their three children include, David B. age 14 born in WI, Lucia age 6 born in NY, and Allen A. age 5 months born in IL. Also in the household are two of Lucia WALL MCKINZIE's brothers, James C. WALL age 22 and Whitney WALL age 16, both born in WI. The census records note that Alexander is a Capt. US Engineers which might explain their having children born in three different states as they traveled with his profession. I also find record of James C. WALL the son of Caleb WALL and Julia M. WHITNEY. James C. WALL married Mary Nancy PERSONS on the 25th of April 1882 in Milwaukee, WI. Caleb and Julia Maria WHITNEY WALL also had a son Edward Clarence WALL who married Anna Louisa HEARDING in Milwaukee, WI on the 24th of April 1878. Edward and his wife Anna were living in Milwaukee, WI during the 1880 census with a son Alexander WALL age 1 year. Edward C. is listed as a Grain Comm. Merchant born in WI to parents who were both born in IL, his wife Anna is born in MI to parents born in England and NY respectively. The album also includes the following entries: Friends: · C.W. Louis KASSUBA, 1875 · ? SAWYER, 24 Dec 1875, Milwaukee · Lee GALT, 9 Jan 1880, Rock Island · Mary F. STORER, 6 Jan 1876, Madison, WI · C. NORDSTRUM, 19 Jan 1880, Rock Island, IL · Kittie C. DURANT, Aug 1877, Milwaukee, WI · Harry S. SMITH, 6 Jan 1876, Milwaukee, WI · Belle C. STORER, Madison, WI · Nellie BIRD, 6 Jan 1876, Madison, WI · Nellie M. MONTGOMERY, 9th July 1876 · Elsie W. FERGUSON, 9 July 1876, Milwaukee · Minnie PERKINS, 8 Jan 1880, Rock Island, IL · Geo F. MARTIN, 9 Jan 1880 · George C. STORER, 8 Jan 1876 Madison, WI · Fred M. JONES, Dixon, IL · Chas H. MEAD, 28 Jan 1878, Chicago, IL · J.E. BAYLEY, 28 Jan 1878, Milwaukee, WI at Racine College · John STORER, 8 Jan 1876, Madison, WI · Belle RUBY, 8 Dec 1880, Rock Island · Chris J. WOLFF, 24 Jan 1878, Chicago, IL at Racine College · Tom BUFORD, 9 Dec 1880, Rock Island, IL · W. GILMORE, 8 Dec 1880, Rock Island, IL · Arthur PIPER, 10 Dec 1877, Cleveland, OH Racine College · Arthur P. GREENLEAF, 10 Dec 1877, Mobile, AL Park Hall · Enis SPAULDING, 9 Dec 1880, Rock Island I'm hoping to locate someone from this WALL Family so that the Album can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Amelia was probably born 1837-1840. Illinois death certificates for 2 of her children state she was born in Milwaukee. Amelia married John SCHIEBER ca1855-1856 either in Milwaukee or in Chicago. The couple resided in Chicago at the time of her death ca1864-1867. Interested in hearing from anyone who can shed light on the ancestry of Amelia. Thank you.
