    1. Re: MITCHELL IN INDIAN SANDS MARQUETTE CO. 1850
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3EC.2ACE/596.2.1 Message Board Post: I noticed your inquiry and subsequent conversation. Because Ancestry.com has indexed 1850, Peter Mitchel, one “l” is easily located on page 148 of the Marquette County census, page 171 of the ancestry images. The family consisted of Peter MITCHEL, 35, Charlotte 35, James 7, William 5, Peter 3, and George 1. Peter and Charlotte were born in Scotland, probably married about 1852, the older 3 boys were born in France and the youngest in Wisconsin, so the immigrated about 1848-9. Your response to the inquiry states that there is an Indian Sands camp on the shore of Tuttle Lake. That lake is in Crystal Lake Township, not Neshkoro township. I’m not aware of a township map from 1850, but we could assume that an Indian Sands township, because of sparse population at the time was in that corner of the County not far from Princeton, and the two subsequent townships, perhaps another, were formed from Indian Sands by 1860. That is a delightful name, a co! mbination of the less complimentary “Injun Lands”, and “Sand Country” by which that area of the state was known in those days. Perhaps Mr. Ribar could obtain the “camp” and create and Indian Sands Resort of renown.
