Is there any documentation on early roads and the crews who built them in Marquette County? In 1888 my German immigrant great-grandfather, Emil Klawitter is thought to have been employed as one of the original builders. It is also possible that his older brother Albert was also employed as a road builder shortly after that year. Were the roads authorized or paid for by the Federal or State government or were they established on a county or township basis?
