Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3EC.2ACE/596.3 Message Board Post: We recently bought a cottage on Indian Echoes Rd-south of Montello off of Hwy 22 on the Fox River. I believe this is the Indian Sands area you are looking for. It is now the Township of Montello. There is a campground and cottages-all along the Fox. Where the river opens wide it is locally known as "Lake Leonard". There is a Lutheran Camp on Tuttle lake but I don't think that would be the place-the Fox River is more likely since that area was heavily traveled. There is supposed to be a museum around and I will be chcking that all out next summer.

    3. The Church of Latter-Day-Saints has put the entire 1880 US, 1881 Canadian and the 1881 British Census online at www.familysearch.org . As you might expect, the site is very busy and not easily accessible, but if you keep trying you will eventually be able to search. Happy Hunting, Everyone! Joan Coordinator Adams Co. 1. Steve Morse Ellis Island Websites are Available Again
    2. joan benner
    3. Many Americans whose ancestors arrived between 1892 and 1924 at the Port of New York have ancestral records in the Ellis Island Database located at the American Family Immigration History Center, at Ellis Island and online at www.ellisisland.org. As many of you know, Steve Morse's Ellis Island websites have been closed since August 31. You can now get to all of the Ellis Island websites from http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB JewishGen and the Ellis Island Foundation will work together with the developers to ensure that these useful search engines and tools will be continuously available to the public. Alternately, Dr. Morse's websites (Ellis Island plus others) can still be accessed from http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse Several new features have been added and many improvements have been made. The most exciting one is the ability to search for any passenger by town of origin and/or by similar-sounding names. If you still get the "site is down" message, that means you are viewing an older version of the page. If that happens, hit your refresh or reload button several times, both with and without the shift key depressed, to make sure that you are getting the latest version. Happy Hunting... I found records in the church book in Putzig, Posen for the birth of your Johann and several siblings. In the record your Johann August was recorded as Johann Nicholaus Nicholai, born Dec. 9, 1831. Perhaps the August was yet another name not recorded with the birth?! He was the 6th child of 8 that were born to: Johann Christoph Nicholai, b. 1793 in Posen, son of Martin Nicholai and his wife, Anna Rosina Luther, b. Before April 1799. (daughter of a Martin Luther, b. before 1779, no joke!) Christoph and Anna married in Putzig on March 31, 1819. They had at least 6 surviving children of at least 8 born. Five of these ended up in Marquette or Waushara county. Child number 3, Anna Maria Nicholai Kemnitz, is my ancestor. Drop me a note if you are interested in more info on this family.

I have not yet tied this line into "my" branch of the Klawitter family. I had copied everything regarding the "Klawitter" name from the Lobsens churchbook, hoping that it would eventually all tie together. And I'm sure that eventually it will. Interestingly enough, I have an "Emma Augusta KLAWITTER, daughter of Julius Heinrich Klawitter and Wilhelmine Goetzke, born January 27, 1890 in Mt. Carmel, PA; died November 22, 1974; married to Foster W Moyer" that I have connected. Both of her parents are also in the Lobsens churchbook. Several branches of the Klawitter family have re-used the same names. Perhaps there were common ancestors? Good luck! Bob Klawitter

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3EC.2ACE/596.2.1 Message Board Post: I noticed your inquiry and subsequent conversation. Because Ancestry.com has indexed 1850, Peter Mitchel, one “l” is easily located on page 148 of the Marquette County census, page 171 of the ancestry images. The family consisted of Peter MITCHEL, 35, Charlotte 35, James 7, William 5, Peter 3, and George 1. Peter and Charlotte were born in Scotland, probably married about 1852, the older 3 boys were born in France and the youngest in Wisconsin, so the immigrated about 1848-9. Your response to the inquiry states that there is an Indian Sands camp on the shore of Tuttle Lake. That lake is in Crystal Lake Township, not Neshkoro township. I’m not aware of a township map from 1850, but we could assume that an Indian Sands township, because of sparse population at the time was in that corner of the County not far from Princeton, and the two subsequent townships, perhaps another, were formed from Indian Sands by 1860. That is a delightful name, a co! mbination of the less complimentary “Injun Lands”, and “Sand Country” by which that area of the state was known in those days. Perhaps Mr. Ribar could obtain the “camp” and create and Indian Sands Resort of renown.

My g-grandmother was confirmed Emilie Auguste Klawitter in March of 1893, she was born February 18, 1880 in Norfolk, Nebraska...could she have been named after the Emile Auguste born October 1865??? Could the 1865 Emile be an aunt? Or could Emile have given birth out of wedlock and named the daughter after herself? Please advise if you know more about the 1865 Emile. I know the 1880 Emilie married a Fredrick Klug and had several children. Some of which were named Fred, Herbert, Emil, Alvina and others I don't know.
