    1. Obituary: Edward T. Avery, died 1888, Montello, Wisconsin
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Avery, Murphy, Gorey, Callahan, Mutty, Vehue, Vigue Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3EC.2ACE/672 Message Board Post: Note: What follows is my transcription of the full text of an obituary of Edward T. Avery, published in the Montello Express, a newspaper published in Montello, Wisconsin, USA. I do not know the exact date, but believe it was probably in July, 1888. His wife, Anna Murphy, a daughter of John C. Murphy and Margaret Gorey of Montello, was a relative of mine. I think it is likely that Edward Avery was born Edward Vehue or Vigue, the son of Joseph and Mary Vehue or Vigue. Edward’s widow later married Timothy Callahan of Montello. The "little daughter" mentioned in the obituary, Edna M. Avery, later moved to Port Townsend, Washington, USA, to live with her aunt, Pauline Vehue Mutty, and work as a school teacher. Tom Pender DIED Avery – At his home in Montello, May 23d, Edward T. Avery, aged 30 years and six months. Edward Avery was born in Canada, in 1857, and removed to Maine with his parents when he was but a child. He came to Montello about 1880, and was among the first men who helped to open the quarry. Edward Avery was married to Miss Anna Murphy, July 2d, 1883, whom he leaves, with their little daughter, to mourn his departure to that seemingly far-away country from which none ever return. Edward Avery was a man of good character, upright and honest, and always industrious. But that unconquerable foe of man – consumption – fastened upon him, and after battling for life for nearly two years, his strength gave way and he is numbered with those who have gone before. He had many friends and no enemies. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved wife and the little one.
