Posted on: Query Forum for Marinette County, WI Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Marinette/10625 Surname: Deau, D'Aoust, Grandeau ------------------------- Since my original posting, I have discovered that my grandmother's family has been living with a phonetic spelling (family pronounces it as "Doe")of the original French name, D'Aoust. The D'Aoust ancestor came to Canada in the late 1600's. A researcher in Canada, Bob D'Aoust, has spent over 10 years in his search for the original settler(s). He has published a very large book, and it appears that there are a lot of distant relatives to be found in Canada, as well as the U.S. My gr-gr-grandfather was Jean-Baptiste D'Aoust. He and his wife Angele (Angela/Angelique) Brabant came to Wisconsin in the early 1860's. On various documents, their name is spelled Deau as well as Deaux. Some descendants in the U.S. even spell their surname as Doe. Thanks for anyone who read this or contacted me about it!
