She had been in ill health for the past five years and was hospitalized for the past four weeks. Mrs. Polomis, the former Laura E. Smiley, was born in Goodman in May, 1927. When she was four years of age she moved with her parents to Amberg~ She graduated from the Amberg High school in 1945 and on Dec. 7, 1949, she married Louis Polomis, Jr. in a ceremony in Chicago. Surviving besides her husband are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Smiley of Amberg; four brothers, Melvin, James and Loren Smiley of Amberg and Robert in the US Navy stationed at Newport, Rhode Island; two sisters, Miss Violetta Jean Smiley of Milwaukee and Gloria at home; and her grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Cowie of Niagara. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at the Amberg Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leland Rubesh officiating and burial will be in the Amberg cemetery. The remains will be in state at the Morasky Funeral home in Wausaukee from Wednesday at 2 p.m. until noon Thursday and thereafter at the church.
