    1. [WIMARINE-L] NICHOL SURNAME
    2. Am searching for descendants of John Nichol/Elizabeth MacLean who moved with their family from New Brunswick, Canada to Marinette, Wisconsin in 1890. It is likely that Elizabeth died there before 1896 as the listing for the family in the 1895 census for Marinette includes only John and sons Angus and James. Other children were: Mary, John Elizabeth and Ellen. Any help would be most appreciated.

I would also appreciate the mailing addresses of St. Josephs Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Marinette. Aloha from Hawaii Richard Voeltzke

    1. [WIMARINE-L] WITT, ROSENAU, MUNDT, KRUTZ - Marinette, Marinette Co., WI
    2. White, Janet
    3. Hello list, I have been researching the WITT surname and have recently come across some information that both helps and confuses me. I have two great uncles, Carl WITT who married Alvina Tellock (or Fellock) in Marinette - and Henry WITT who married Caroline Traske nee Rosenau. They were all members of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years before their deaths. It is possible that Caroline had been married several times, as her obituary states as a survivor, her husband Carl and children, Albert (WITT??) and Henry Pruschinski. Other survivors were Anna (Mrs Otto) Krutz, (who in Carl's obituary is listed as his daughter), a brother Herman Tellock of Detroit, a sister ?Wilhagen and another brother John in Austrailia. Then there is Henry Witt's wife Caroline TRASKE nee ROSENAU who married him 12-5-1905 (this is correct because it states Henry's parents as Christian Witt and Caroline SCHMELZER of Poland) and another wife, whom he must have married after Caroline's death in 1928 - Julia MUNDT who was born in 1888 and who survived after he died. My grandmother's name is mentioned in that obituary so that is correct too. Then Julia's obituary says she has a daughter Mrs Harold MENOR who lived on Terrace Ave in 1964. All are buried at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette. I'm looking for any descendants or relatives or anyone who may be able to shed some light on this group. Does anything sound familiar to anyone? 3. My Marinette Co. saga continues. My grandparents on my mother's side, Roy and Karen Elise BARROWS, moved to Amberg from Chicago in 1921. My mom met Ralph and Gertrude SPENCER's son of Athelstane at roller skating parties in Wausaukee. I still have an aunt in Amberg, but she is not on line and doesn't get around to writing very often. I think she is a volunteer at the museum there. I would like to exchange information with any relatives or anyone else interested. I have more information on my Web site at http://www.accutek.com/~lsbusch/family1.htm. Laurel Spencer Busch lsbusch@accutek.com

    1. [WIMARINE-L] SPENCER/SEEHAWER/Athelstane
    2. Busch
    3. Hello to the list. Anybody out there? All of my family lines converged in Marinette County in the first half of this century. My great-grandparents, Joseph T. and his wife Sarah Ellen (Lewis) SPENCER, moved their family from Chicago to Athelstane in 1907. Their son Ralph Edward SPENCER was with them. Alice (Gormley) BOESEN TAPPAN O'DEAL came to Athelstane from Racine about 1891. My great-grandmother, Mary Ellen BOESEN, was her daughter. Rudolph SEEHAWER, my great-grandfather, came to Athelstane from Germany. He was the town assessor from 1910-1912. He married Mary Ellen BOESEN (above) in 1897. Mary Ellen and Rudolph's daughter, Gertrude SEEHAWER, married Ralph SPENCER (above) in 1917. They were my grandparents. Are these names familiar to anyone else on the list? I am in touch with a Seehawer cousin and a Spencer cousin in Athelstane, but neither of them is on line--yet. One of them has gone through local papers and sent me copies of articles mentioning these names. I'd like to hear from relatives or anyone else who would like to exchange information. I have more information and photos on my Web site at http://www.accutek.com/~lsbusch/family1.htm. I will write a separate message about my mom's side. Laurel Spencer Busch lsbusch@accutek.com

    1. [WIMARINE-L] Ques. re: timeline, Wausaukee
    2. Hi All... Well, I am in a dilemma and certainly need you input/advise. I am searching for SMITH, Mike and wife Eliza.. Wausaukee, WI. Married in 1898, Menominee, MI. I searched 1900 SDX, MI and WI, nothing, then the family appears in 1905 SDX, WI in Wausaukee. hum..... Their son was born in 1901, Wausaukee and they are located in the 1905 SDX, but not the 1910 WI SDX. NOW THE SITUATION IS: What other source would be avail in such a small town to locate a person in 1900, 1901, 1902, 1902, 1904, etc..............to 1910. the 1910? I have been told that their are NO City Directories for Wausaukee in these years! I suppose I could check Churches but Mike Smith was not a churchgoer, yet he was Lutheran, now His wife eliza was Methodist.... A possibility. Does anyone know of the Methodist Church in Wasuaukee? No baptism was done either. Does anyone have any other creative ideas, to locate this family? I certainly appreciate all input. thanks....Cheryl

NENW, sec 34.... This would describe the Town of Pound, right on a corner of Oconto County, and a fair distance for any "city." Peshtigo appears to be 8-9 miles ENE, and Oconto about the same distance SSE. "sec 34" I understand, "Sec. NENW" I don't. Was this a small plot of land (such as the 40 acre NE quarter of the NW quarter of section 34)? You don't need a plat map to get this level of information--a DeLorme Wisconsin Atlas and Gazetteer will provide you with these data for the whole state. But a plat map for the right time period will usually show ownership, so you can be more sure of your analysis. Rollie

    3. Hello everyone! http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/WI_index.html Just wanted to let you know that I have added a few more links on the WI State Topics page. And, the new sites from now on will be marked with a red asterisk to make it easier for everyone to find them. I have also added a few sites on a few county pages. These new sites will be marked with the words NEW SITE!!! in red also. New to the Adams Co. site is the Adams Co. Historical Society site. I urge you to check this site out as it is a great site with lots of local information to be seen. And if you have any links that you would like to add to the site, please email with the information. If you have a personal or genealogical web site that deals with Wisconsin, you can also have a link added to the ALHN WI site. (Linda - I know you want your site on there!) :) There is also a new link on the Oneida and Vilas Co sites for look ups that are offered by a volunteer. If you can offer to do look ups and would like me to create a page with your information on it, please let me know. I will be more than happy to work with you on something. Whether you charge for your help or not, is up to you. I would just like to give folks you need help in Wisconsin a few places that they can count on getting some correct information through. Our ALHN WI page is nearing 5000 visits! Yipee!!! Not too long ago we were only at 4000. I have also included a new webtracker on the main pages of the ALHN WI site. This way I can keep track of what the most popular pages are and where people are coming from. This tracker will even tell me what country visitors are from. I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to visit the site. It wouldn't be there if it weren't for all you wonderful Wisconsinites and your ancestors!!!
