Posted on: Marinette County Wi. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Marinette/443 Surname: Engles ------------------------- I'm an Engles with Marinette County roots--my grandfather, Melvin Engles, worked at the Goodman Lumber Mill for many years and dies in the mid-1960s. Two of his sons, Melvin and Everette, live there now--one is retired, the other works as a kiln operator for the mill. Melvin Engles had six children (including also Patricia, Dixie, Bernie, and Roy), all of whom still live in Wisconsin. I don't know whether my grandfather is from Wisconsin or not, and I don't recognize any of the names in the previous message.

Posted on: Marinette County Wi. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Marinette/438 Surname: Fezatte, King ------------------------- Thanks so much for the information about Silver Cliff. I had been told that the family had a trading post there. I also was given information that my great-great grandfather had died at Rat River and no one seemed to know where it was. The information about Silver Cliff had come from a very elderly relative (now deceased for about 20 years) so I guess sometimes those word of mouth stories are very reliable. Perhaps with being so knowledgable about the area you might know.....is there an old trading post building in a park somewhere in the area? One of the distant relatives swears that the building was preserved and is in a park somewhere in eastern Wisconsin. She thought it was in Manitowoc but that has not proved out. Would make more sense for it to be in the Oconto area because that is supposedly where John and Victor Fezatte had their trading post. Any hints about this would be very much appreciated.

Posted on: Marinette County Wi. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Marinette/436 Surname: ------------------------- Silver Cliff is a civil township (not to be confused with a "town," village or city). It used to be called Rat River, and was made a county governmental unit in 1920. The township remains very rural today and there are no incorporated communities within its bounds that I know of. It does, however, have the Peshtigo River, Strong Falls, Goodman County Park, McClintock Falls and McClintock County Park, to name a few of its lovely features. Posted on: Marinette County Wi. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Marinette/433 Surname: CARRIVEAU ------------------------- Carriveau/Raboin Marrinette County. Thanks so much for the responses. I have found my grandmother's birth certificate at the Marrinette County Courthouse born in Niagra, WI on 5/7/1906. Her parents were Cordeila Raboin who was born in Dagget, MI May 16, 1884 & Joseph August Carriveau, born in Oconto October 04, 1881. I've been able to trace my great grandmother back to Michel Rabouin from France and have been very succesfull with the Corriveau/Carriveua line. It took a trip to Wisconsin/Michigan this past winter to visit Oconto County, Marrinette County & Menominee Counties. The information relating to Iron Mountain Michigan is incorrect, as the Dickensen County Courthouse had no records. I think this incorrect information is on the LDS site. If you're interested you can email me. Thanks !! Richard
