Thank you for your time, Mary Saggio Wisconsin State Coordinator ============================ Newspaper Abstracts - where we are finding our ancestors in the news! Over the years many records regarding our ancestors were lost or destroyed in fires, floods and other natural disasters. Newspapers contain much information that may not be found elsewhere such as births, marriages, deaths, court notices, land sales, tax notices, businesses, etc. They hold many glimpses of information in their community news and provide us with many fascinating details about the lives of our ancestors from the businesses they frequented to the hardships and triumphs they endured while building a new life in a new land. Newspaper abstracts came online October 1999 and since that time has grown to over 2,800 pages of data all of which has been contributed by volunteers. This site contains abstracts, extracts and links to newspaper articles across the United States, Ireland and Canada published prior to 1923. More volunteers are also needed in all geographic areas - no submissions are too small or too large! Posted on: Marinette County Wi. Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/Marinette/505 Surname: Larmay, Larimee, L'Armee, Lorimer, Larimer ------------------------- We wish you well in your search for Larmay siblings in Marinette and Peshtigo areas. Have no specific knowledge of Larmay, just have a few thoughts about French spelling and pronunciation. Sounds French, but could be from a couple of different original names -- and others may think of other possibilities. 1)Might have been Larimee originally, pronounced not at all like Laramie, Wyoming, but like Lah ree may, with each syllable given equal emphasis. I've seen this surname often in doing French Canadian research. 2)Possibly L'Armee, pron. Lar may. meaning of course, "the army." 3)Lorimer and Larimer are common enough Canadian names, probably pronounced several ways, and another possible source for your name. Changes in the spelling and pronunciation of your Larmay surname probably happened a couple of generations ago, maybe changed legally, maybe changed by a census taker or on immigration papers. But don't let these earlier possible names get you side-tracked. When you finally get in touch with your brother and sister, maybe you can work on your family tree together, it can be so rewarding & fun! If you post a note now and then to this list, telling us what records you have looked into already, you will improve your chances of building links to your family. You don't need to tell us every little thing, but we may have some ideas of where to look next. Good luck! Barb G.
