Beers and Co., 1896 Sinai Brault, who, since 1893, has served as commmissioner of Coleman Township, is one of the oldest settlers of the township there. His residence dates from 1875, eight years before the advent of the railroad, and he has always displayed a lively interest in the improvement and progress of his adopted county, taking a leading part in all movements which he had reason to believe were for the good of the community in general. Mr. Brault was born in 1857 in Joliette county, Canada, son of Jean Elie and Marcelline (Gaudette) Brault, natives of the same place, where the father was engaged in the lumber business. Later for nine years he was a policeman on the police force of Montreal. He also taught school in Joliette county. In 1875, he and his wife came to Marinette county, Wis., where he passed away in 1887; Mrs. Brault now makes her home with our subject. Of their of five children, Azarie has a tailoring establishment in Montreal; Azarine (Mrs. Edmond Richard) lives in Coleman township, Marinette county; Isai resides in Coleman township, and is a teacher in District No. 10; Octavie is the wife of Joseph Lintereur, of Coleman township; Sinai is the subject of this sketch. Sinai Brault was reared and educated in the country of his birth, finishing his literary training at a college in Montreal, and at the age of about eighteen came with his parents to Wiscconsin, their family being the second one to setle permanently in Coleman township, Marinette county. They purchased 120 acres from the Peshtigo Company, lying in Section 13, the farm on which our subject yet makes his home, and of which sixty acres are now cleared. He has devoted himself almost exclusively to the care and improvement of his land; and conducts a general farming business, which by his industry and superior manaement yields him a good income. For the past eight years, he has also operated a threshing machine, and has recently provided himself with a steam-threshing outfit, being now well-equipped in this respect to do a large business. Mr. Brault was married in 1881, in Coleman township, to Miss Hermine Granger, also a native of Joliette county, Canada, where here parents, Marc and Julia (Marion) Granger, were also born. The mother died in Montreal, Canada, and the father subsequently came to Wisconsin, taking up a homestead in Coleman township, Marinette county, where he died three years later. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Sinai Brault, namely: Emile, Eugene, Lucien, Octavie, Helbertine, Eva and Fred. The family in religious connection are identified with the Church of St. John the Baptist, Coleman, of which Mr. Brault is a trustee. Politically, he affiliates with the Republicans, and takes an active interest in politics and public affairs in general, at present serving as commissioner of Coleman township and as a Director of District No. 2 As a citizen who takes a genuine interest in the general welfare and prosperity, he is respected and valued throughout the township in which his active life has been passed.

    3. Posted on: Biographical Data -- Marinette County, WI Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Wi/MarinetteBios/10029 Surname: Deau, Brault, Gaudette, Lintereur, Dupuis ------------------------- Transcription from "Commemorative Biographical Record of the West Shore of Green Bay, Wisconsin, including the counties of Brown, Oconto, Marinette and Florence" published by J.H. Beers and Co., 1896: Odilon Brault, a prosperous farmer and mill-owner of Coleman Township, is a member of the first family who settled in the township, their residence there dating from 1870. Mr. Brault's parents, Joseph and Euphemia (Bourgeois) Brault, were natives of Joliette county, Province of Quebec, Canada, where the father was engaged in business for years, both as a lumberman and merchant. In the course of his business life there, he erected three sawmills and a gristmill. In 1868, he came to Wisconsin, locating in Marinette county in 1869, in March of the same year going to Menominee. In 1870 he homesteaded 160 acres in Coleman township (which, like the entire surrounding region, was then all in the woods), and there erected a good, two-story house, which stood unil 1895, when it was destroyed by fire. On the land the family made a permanent settlement, and Mr. Brault spent the rest of his life in its cultivation and improvement. In 1883, he put up a sawmill and gristmill, 80x44 feeet in dimensions, and two stories in height, and in addition to his farming and milling operations conducted a store, becoming a prosperous man. He was active in public affairs and improvements, as well as an enterprising businessman, and the town of Braultville was named in his honor. He passed from earth April 15, 1887, aged sixty-three years, four monhs, seventeen days and was followed to the grave by his wife May 23, 1890, who was aged sixty-seven years, three months, three days. They had a family of nine children - six sons and three daughters - all the living ones, with the exception of Leon, being residents of Coleman township: Joseph (who is married), Urgele, Odilon (of whom this biography more particularly relates), Sinai, Edmond, Leon (who lives in Montreal, Canada), Justine (who died February 17, 1895), Julin (Mrs. Jean Baptiste Belanger) and Azarine (Mrs. Jebeau). Odilon Brault was born in 1853, in Joliette county, Province of Quebec, and was there reared and educated up to the age of fourteen when he came with his parents to Wisconsin. The trip was made from Lake Superior to Green Bay, thence to Peshtigo, Marinette county, where they first located in 1869. In 1870 he came thence to Coleman township, there for a time working for the Peshtigo Lumber Co. Since 1883, he has engaged in miling, his present mill having been erected in 1892, and he owns twelve acres of land besides. The mill gives employment to nine men besides the proprietor himself, and during the winters they cut from 400,000 to 500,000 feet of timber, principaly for farmers, in the summertime engaging in the manufacture of shingles, the shingle-mill turning out an average of 20,000 a day. Mr. Brault was married in 1880, in Menominee to Miss Lucy Niguett, who was born in Manitowoc county, Wis., daughter of Delphos Niguet, a native of Canada, who in an early day come to Manitowoc county; he now resides in Coleman township, where he owns a 240-acre farm. Before her marriage, Mrs. Brault taught school in Coleman township. Twelve children have come to Mr. and Mrs. Odilon Brault, namely: Eddie, Andrew, Albert, Clara, Anna, Addie, Lucy, Emma, Olive, Eliza, Elmyra and Mary. A a pioneer and almost life-long resident of the township, Mr. Brault has witnessed most of its development, and has noted with interest the rapid strides of advancement which have been made in the past few years. When the family settled on the timber-covered farm they experienced for a time many of the inconveniences and hardships which necessarily fall to the lot of pioneers, and in the fire of 1871, the improvements which had thus far been made were all wiped out by the destroying element - their barns and crops, everything, in fact, except the house, which was fortunately saved. The large mill erected by the elder Mr. Brault was burned February 13, 1891. Our subject and his wife are Catholics in religious faith, being members of St. John the Baptist, Coleman. Politically, he is an active Republican, one who takes a warm interest in the success of his party, and ardently supports its principles. He has served as treasurer of the school board.

    2. Thought I would pass this along, may be helpful to someone Genealogy and Copyright Law Many people erroneously believe that just because something is on the Internet, it is fair game to use. Many genealogists also erroneously believe that the data they have gleaned from public records and compiled into pedigree charts, family group sheets and other standard format genealogy formats is copyrighted. Both are incorrect assumptions, but the issue is often not clear and straightforward. If you are considering publishing any genealogical material, or have been challenged by another genealogist for posting data to which he or she thinks they own a copyright, you will want to refer to two online references. The article titled "U.S. Copyright and Genealogy" offers an excellent overview on the subject. The definitive reference point is the Library of Congress' U.S. Copyright Office Web site at http://www.loc.gov/copyright/. When in doubt, consult a legal representative.

Mrs. Bruce was born Aug. 4, 1869, on Washington Island off Door County. Her family settled in the Peshtigo area just before the fire that began Oct. 8, 1871. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Wegner, were German immigrants. She used to recall her father telling about the fire that claimed more than 1,000 lives. The family took refuge in the Peshtigo River as the blaze roared through the lumber camp, killing 800 persons in that town alone. An additional 300 persons died in the area west and south of Peshtigo and about 50 more in Door County across Green Bay. The more widely remembered Chicago fire, which started the same day, claimed about 250 lives. After the blaze, the Wegner family moved to Green Bay and, in 1877, moved to a farm near Dorchester in Taylor County. In 1886, Augusta married Henry Bruce, a timber camp foreman. In 1909, the couple moved to Park Falls. Bruce died in 1940 and Mrs. Bruce went to California, where two of her children lived, but returned to Wisconsin a short time later. She lived at the county home since 1966.
