Albert Volkman, 32, 105 S. Fifth avenue, father of two children and an employe of the city water department, ended his life at 11:35 o'clock this morning in the garage at the rear of his home. According to police, Volkman placed the muzzle of a shotgun against his stomach and pushed the trigger with a stick. The body was found by Leo Schneider, 1310 Cherry street, who was visiting in the neighborhood and heard the report of the gun. He told police he found the dead man's wife, Hilda, standing near the door of the garage, shouting: "My husband has shot himself." The wife was unable to explain her husband's act. She said he seemed nervous this morning, but not especially depressed. Dr. H. H. Fechtner, county coroner, termed the death a suicide. Police said Volkman has been an assistant tapper with the water department for the past two years. FUNERAL MONDAY Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Helke funeral home, with burial following in Pine Grove cemetery. The Rev. William Spiegel, pastor of St. Stephen's Lutheran church, will officiate. A resident of Wausau since 1930, Volkman was born in the town of Texas July 8, 1907. He was married here July 5, 1930, to Hilda Raduechel, who survives him with a son, Jack, and a daughter, Marjorie Ann Volkman. Also surviving are his father, William Volkman, Crandon; four brothers, Charles, Reinhold and Erwin Volkman, Phelps, and Harold Volkman, town of Texas; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Shober, Spencer; two step-brothers, Bernhard and August Koehler, town of Texas; and two step-sisters, Mrs. John Raduechel, town of Texas, and Mrs. William Luedtke, Milwaukee. The dead man was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. >From the Wausau Daily Record Herald - Saturday, 10/7/1939 Funeral services for Albert Volkman, 105 S. Fifth avenue, city water department employe who took his own life yesterday, will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the Helke funeral home, it was announced today following a change in the original plans. The Rev. William Spiegel, pastor of St. Stephen's Lutheran church, will officiate and burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
