"Cy" Lillie, 81, 402 S. Sixth St., died Monday at his home after a long illness. Mr. Lillie was manager of the former Frederick Hotel for many years, and later operated the Owl Bar. He was born Oct. 15, 1892, at Wausau, Wis. He came to Grand Forks in 1912 and was affiliated with the Frederick Hotel. He served in the Army during World War I. Following his discharge, he returned to Grand Forks and served as manager of the Frederick until it was destroyed by fire in 1944. He owned and operated the Owl Bar until his retirement in 1959 due to ill health. Mr. Lillie was a member of American Legion Post 6 and was long interested in Junior Legion baseball and managed local teams in 1945. He also directed the drum and bugle corps for 15 years and was American Legion Commander in 1937-38. He was a member of the Grand Forks Elks Club for 58 years and was made a life member in 1969. Mr. Lillie was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He married Estelle Deickert* on Aug 11, 1920 at Grand Forks. She survives in addition to one son, Dick, Cass Lake, Minn.; one daughter, Patricia Ann at home; one grandson, Clay Lillie, Cass Lake; a sister, Mrs. Nelson (Harriet) Servic, Naples, Fla.; and two brothers, Ralph, Steven's Point, Wis., and Maurice, Wausau. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Grand Forks Norman Funeral Home with Rev. Frederick Gillette of St. Paul's Espiscopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with honors accorded by the American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials to American Legion baseball or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
