I have several Irish families in my background (although not in Marathon County), and in the US they belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church as a "replacement" for the Anglican Church of Ireland - or could also replace the Anglican Church of England. Do you know the nationality of your great grandparents? This might present a clue if they were Protestant Irish or English.
