DIES IN MERRILL Gottlieb Staege of Merrill, a former pioneer resident of Marathon county, died Sunday morning at five o'clock at the advanced age of ninety-one years as the result of old age and dropsy. Death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Jessey, in Merrill. Mr. Staege was born November 5, 1823, in Germany. He came to Marathon county in 1856 and lived for a time in the town of Hamburg. Later, he went to Washington county where he remained for eleven years and where he was married. He returned to Marathon county, and made his home in the town of Berlin, where he engaged in farming until his retirement nine years ago. Mr. Staege is survived by his widow, who is in her eighty-first year, and by seven children, Mrs. Edward C. Kretlow of Wausau, Mrs. Joseph Jessey, Merrill, Mrs. George Montgomery, Merrill, Mrs. Bertha Liese of St. Cloud, Minn., John and Albert Staege of Wausau, and Gottlieb Staege of Merrill. The funeral was held last Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church in Merrill and interment was made at the Merrill cemetery. Rev. J. J. Schliepsiak officiated. Albert Staege and Mrs. E. C. Kretlow of this city spent Sunday in Merrill assisting in the funeral arrangements.
