I do not know if this will help, but I thin that the M_____ town that she wrote of was the City of Marathon. The reason that I say that is because of a few clues that she wrote. One of the first that she states in November of 1865 her father went to a town that consisted of a few scatted houses and a church. In that same year one of my ancestors was part of a group from Pittsburgh that founded the City of Marathon. It is said that the group built a building that served as a church and a few one room homes so that the group could make it through their first winter. They of course had to clear the area of the thick trees. The next is that she mentions after a few day they came to a creek and a marsh. Scotch Creek runs through the Edgar and Marathon areas and it flows into the Wisconsin River between Marathon and Wausau. Many of the lower lands along the creek are still very marshy. Thirdly, the names, Robert Schilling, Lemmer and Heil are all still prevelent in the Edgar and Marathon areas today. I would suggest looking in those areas. Also there were two Schilling families in the area. So far we haven't been able to find a connection between the families, but one was my family and the other was a Robert Schilling! Anyway, I think I may know someone who can help. I will let you know soon. Amber
