Does anyone know who to contact or how to get emigration records - from the US to Germany in 1898-1899? I seem to only find the other way - from Germany to the US! Shelley

Shelley.... I tried that route several years ago with the first wife of my grandfather's brother that went back to Germany (reverse immigration) because there were too many earthquakes and Indians (according to the divorce papers in Clark County)!! I contacted the Wisconsin Historical Society and the federal immigration department in Washington, D.C. and the word from both was that no index was kept for people leaving the US (for whatever reason), only people entering the US. Deep down, I think there has got to be some type of record somewhere. Maybe a ship passenger list but then, you have to know the date(s) and ship.... so, that opens another "black hole!"
