    2. Laura Schroeder
    3. I am looking for death information on Hermann and Dorothea (Muller) SCHROEDER who lived in Spencer with their son Fred C Schroeder and family in 1920. By 1930 Fred had moved on to Muskegon County Michigan. Hermann and Dorothea (Dorette, etc) also had a daughter Meta who married Luther A Thompson and she lived in Waupaca County. I believe Hermann and Dorothea had land in Marathon County that remained in the family until fairly recently...it may still be. I would be very grateful if someone on the list has access to when and where Hermann and Dorothea passed away and are buried. Thank you so much, Laura Schroeder Minnesota

I found in the Wisconsin Marriages from 1835 - 1900: Gustav A. Hockendorf married Hattie F. B. Delp on May 7, 1882 in Monroe County, Wisc. I also found in the New York Passenger Lists, 1851 - 1891, Gustav Heckendorf arrived from Germany in 1875, est. birth year 1867. My problem with this second fact is that I can't seem to find only that 1 original source document that I would normally have so I can't see with whom he was traveling. Note the different spellings of the last names. This was a name that was spelled in numerous different ways.

My Fleming's may not be related to Heckendorf's--I only remember my mother Ruth (Fleming) Crandall (1920-90) referring to an uncle Gustav Adolph Heckendorf. I have a funeral card for Hattie Heckendorf, died 1905, age 48. I also have two postcard size floral prints, one saying "To George Heckendorf by Bridget Harvey, attendance 23 days." And the other, "Rose Heckendorf." Perhaps the Heckendorf connection is through my Torrance's or Rich's. My ggrandfather Charles Torrance who died about 1942 or my ggrandmother Augusta (Rich) Torrance, died 1950. Am just beginning this search for family in WI. Kathy

    1. [WIMARATH-L] Herman Hackbarth
    2. Robert Lipprandt
    3. Maybe not an error, maybe more missing names. The only way to know for sure is to find birth/baptismal/marriage documents. They will list all the given names that a child was given. In most of my cases from that era, four names were common. At times, the first two or three given names end up being family names for generations, male and female. Usually, as a child grew they eliminated names that they did not like so that's where the problems begin. An example is my father, birth name and baptismal name Otto Harry Oscar Heinrich. On his official school, marriage and death records, Harry Otto. Other problems are the German to English name transfers, Karl to Carl, Heinrich to Henry, Reinhold to Raymond to mention a few. So.... in your case it could be Heinrich August Hermann or a combination of the three names if he is listed as a junior. Keep all options open.... stay open minded! Regards, Robert Lipprandt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: [WIMARATH-L] Re: Herman Hackbarth > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2EC.2ACE/3136.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Terry, > I found Herman's WWI draft registration card (I emailed this to you) and a > birth record on Ancestry.com... the WWI card said his name was Henry > Herman Hackbarth born 6 Oct 1878 (agreeing with 1900 Census) and the > closest relative was August Hackbarth. One thing that is possible, many Prussian/Germans used their middle name instead of the their first name... so it may be that August is actually Herman August and hence the Jr. on Herman in the 1910 Census. Just a guess... Laura

I have an Augusta Wessendorf (b. 1870) who married a William Hoeckendorf (with a brother, Charlie d. 1947) and they had a daughter, Hattie - b. 1890, d. 1968. They were married in Wi. & Hattie was born in Milwaukee. William committed suicide in Kansas. I have a George Heckendorf mentioned in an obit but don't know his wife's name. I need more info regarding dates and locations to be of more help. Nita
