    1. Legislative Alert - Birth Certificate fees increase In WI
    2. Pam Anderson
    3. Legislative Alert: Please write your State legislators on Assembly Bill 831 which increases birth certificate fees. The authors of the bill are Representatives Kestell & Seidel and Senators Olson and Miller. This link will take you to the page that will give you the names and e-mail addresses for your representatives http://165.189.139.210/WAML// You can read the bill at http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2005/data/AB-831.pdf Get others involved too. The bill increases the fee for a certified or uncertified birth certificate from $12 to $15 and from $3 to $4 for additional copies issued at the same time. At the present time $7 of the $12 is sent to the state to be used by Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board for the expenses of the Early Childhood Education Center grant program, and grants to organizations for services related to child abuse and neglect. The bill increases the amount going to the state from $7 to $9 and then increases it to $10 after July 1, 2010. Our objection to this bill is that this is a user fee program but genealogists who order the uncertified birth certificates of their parents or grandparents have no relationship to the fee charged. It can be argued that by having a child, parents might be responsible for child abuse or neglect of that child. It is hard to argue convincingly that child abuse will occur to people who are no longer children. The Assembly will be back in session December 6 through 15 on Tuesday through Thursdays for this year. You can go to the WSGS website < http://www.wsgs.org > for updates. I suggest we write our legislators first along with the authors of the bill. This is the e-mail link for the Assembly http://www.legis.state.wi.us/leginfo/asmmail.asp This is the Senate e-mail link http://www.legis.state.wi.us/leginfo/senmail.asp The bill has a fiscal note so it will need to go to the Joint Committee on Finance before it can be voted on. The bill is definitely on a fast track because it was introduced on Nov. 14th and the committee hearing was Nov. 17th. Pam Anderson WSGS Advocacy Chair

    1. Hildensperger
    2. I am looking for my great uncle, Leo J. Hildensperger, born March 14, 1893 in Wausau. I found an article in the Washington Post stating that he, in 1916, was working for the US Treasury as a clerk in the comptroller's office. It also stated that he was from Montana. The Hilkdenspergers did migrate to Montana for a brief time. My grandmother, Alma Hildensperger-Mulchaey also said he worked for AP or UPI in China. In the fifties he came from California to visit and gave me some soveniers from China. He was the only Hildensperger I ever met.

Surnames: Munes, Adams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2EC.2ACE/3161.1 Message Board Post: My ancestor John Munes of Athens, Wisconsin passed away there on June 02, 1901. I hope this gives some help of a time frame that the hotel was there. John Munes was the first man to make the trip to and from Dorchester in a single day, and he later acquired a team of roadsters which enabled him to make the trip to and from Wausau in a single day. But the departure in the morning was at extremely early hour while the return home was very late. John Munes was also the store owner for the company store in Athens, Wisconsin. John Munes sadly passed away due to being stuck in a rain storm on his way to Wausau, WI. He passed away at the Adams house in Wausau, WI. For several years I had searched to find out what the Adams house was. To my surprise was a hotel that was managed by John Adams. The building was a large brick building on the corner of Fourth and Jackson Streets. It had large, pleasant rooms, and good accommodations.

    3. Hi, I might be able to help. There were two Herman Hardts with Athens connections. One Herman; b. 6/8/1884 Jackson, Washington Co., WI d. 6/22/1958 Town of Halsey, Marathon Co. He was married to a Meta Wollner, his father was William Hardt and Mother, Anna Koshmann. He had 8 siblings that I am aware of. The other Herman Hardt father was William Julius Hardt, b. 10/31/1860 in Germany; Mother - Caroline Knuth. I do not have the dob or death for this Herman. He had 5 siblings that I am aware of. I also believe there is a connections between these two Hardt families, but do not have any proof. My guess is that the first William above was a brother to a Carl Hardt, father of William Julius. Can you tell me your connections? You seem to be somewhat familiar with the Wausau area...do you live in Wisconsin? You said Herman was an ancestor.
