Surnames: Bound Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2EC.2ACE/3205 Message Board Post: Wausau Piolot - Tuesday November 22 1904 Page 1 ANOTHER OLD SETTLER DEAD Word reached this city Wednesday announcing the death of Mrs. David McMillan of Waupaca. She died that morning after a long illness, at the age of sixty-nine years. Mrs. McMillan was better known to our old residents as Mrs. W. J. Empey. With her husband William Empey, she came here in the '70's and for a great many years, or until the death of Mr. Empey in 1889, they conducted the Empey House at 718 Washington Street. That house is now owned by Cawley Bros. and is occupied by Mrs. D. Kennedy as a boarding house. The Empey House in an early day was the home of many of our citizens who have since acquired homes of their own and became permanent residents of the city. About four years ago Mrs. Empey was united in marriage to David McMillan and since that event she has resided with her husband in Waupaca. Deceased's maiden name was Cornelia Bound. she was born in the town of Conklin, Broome county, N.Y., May 27, 1835. She was first married to W. J. Empey Feb. 22, 1860, who died in the year above stated. She was married in 1899 to David McMillan who survives her. All who were intimately acquainted with her regarded her as a woman who had few equals as a loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend. To those in distress she tendered her assistance, and in her life time performed many charitable deeds. To neighbors in sickness or ill fortune her services were freely given, and she exerted an influence which endeared them to her as steadfast friends ever after. In her daily life she practiced the golden rule, and she was honored and respected therefore. Among her boarders she wielded a motherly influence and they regarded her with the affection inborn of a child for a parent. As a counsellor in the business affairs of her husband she was a power, and combined with her womanly traits she had business qualifications not posessed by the average of her sex. Mrs. Empey had been ill for a long time with complications which made her recovery impossible and several times of late she had been close to Death's door. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons and one daughter, Alexander, of Merill; Mrs. Lottie Neff, of Kaukauna, and Albert Empey, of this city, and three step children, A.J. Empey, of Miladore, and Mrs. Jas. Haskin and W. H. Empey, of this city. Besides those she has one brother and one sister living at Plainfield, F. S. Bound and Mrs. Ellen Kennedy. The remains were brought here and interred in Pine Grove cemetery Friday afternoon, the funeral being held from the home of her son, Albert of Washington street at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. Carmichael conducting the services. The pall bearers were A. H. Grout, A.V. Gearhart, W.W. Albers, Albert Althen, F.W. Burt and E. B Thayer.

    3. Marathon County Listers, I apologize....I was not aware that posting to do research for a fee was not legal. I have also sent an apology to Rootsweb. I did not know that I could "clear this with" Shelley. As I told rootsweb, I am very sorry for my error. I have never made a post of this type in the past, and I do not plan to do it again. Shelley does not know me or my work, but in my defense, I CAN guarantee I only had the intention of offering my services in order to help others in the same way many have helped me in the past. I love doing genealogy research and I am very good at what I do! There are some listers I have helped in the past that are aware of my work. 1. Marriages Added to Vital Records Index
    2. Melissa McLimans
    3. We at the Wisconsin Historical Society are so excited to announce the addition of marriage records to the Wisconsin Pre-1907 Vital Records Index located at www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords. That's right; marriages can now be searched along with birth and death records. Plus, we have added counties previously unavailable in other online databases and the 1970s microfiche index. Now, you can look for marriages in counties Richland through Winnebago at the same time you search for marriages from the rest of the state. Marriages, dating between 1836 and September 30, 1907, are indexed by both the bride and groom names, wherever possible. Therefore, in most cases, there will be two entries for one marriage; one for the bride and one for the groom. There are some counties that were not indexed by bride's name, but our excellent volunteers are working to correct that as well. The new marriage index, like its companions, began as a 1970s microfiche publication. The Schoenleber Foundation of Milwaukee generously provided funds to convert them to electronic form, so now genealogists have free public access to information on more than a half a million marriages, 400,000 Wisconsin deaths, as well as more than 1 million births. Happy searching and let us know how everything works. There are bound to be some errors, but now that the index is in the digital age, fixing index problems is quite simple (unfortunately, fixing errors on the original records is still impossible!). Best wishes, Melissa McLimans Manager, Wisconsin Genealogical Research Service Wisconsin Historical Society

I believe your George Topham Sr's sister Mary Topham was married to my greatgreatgrandfather Francis Bampton in England. Unfortunately I have not proven yet that they either divorced or Mary Topham passed away in England. They had two known children who came to the USA with Francis. Francis married a second time and came to the USA. George Topham Sr. (spelled Toffham on 1870 Connecticut - Wallingford - New Haven Census) with Sarah lived in Connecticut abt 1870 with my greatgreatgrandfathers family. They both came to Wisconsin before the 1880 Census, and lived nearby (next door) in Dancy, Wisconsin. I have more information on the Topham family. If you have questions e-mail me privately.
