Surnames: Gumtz, Gums, Horneke, Kunke Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2EC.2ACE/547.1 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm working on the Gumtz families. I know that Carl Gumtz came over from Posen Prussia in 1866. He dropped the tz off the his last name and went by Gums. It is Gums on the 1880, 1900, and 1910 census. Carl and Henriette Kunke had a son Carl and Carl had a son, Emil. Emil went back to the correct spelling of Gumtz. Emil had a son Vilas. Vilas has a son Brian. Vilas married Arline. I believe this is correct, but I'm just getting my info from family trees. I'd love to know if Carl was a brother to my Johan Gumtz who came to the US about the same time. There is also a Herman and a Henry Gumtz. Also are they related to Wilhelmina Gumtz Horneke.? It just makes sense that they are cousins at the very least. It's a very uncommon name and they all ended up in Marathon county WI. You wrote this 5 years ago so I figure you may have more info now?

    2. Pat Michael
    3. Good idea for people who don't have ancestry.com subscription. Just a thought: Plan the 3 days for when you'll have most of the day to search because there may be typos and you'll have to search for your names using various spellings. It took a long time for me to find some of my families because either the enumerator wrote the name as he heard it rather than as it is correctly spelled OR the folks who typed the Indexes made typos. Good hunting!! If you do a search for Joe Blow in Wisconsin and can't find him, use the advanced option of going to Wisconsin, then to the county and then to the city or township and read all the names in that section. Time consuming but can be well worth it. -------Original Message------- From: Cricri88@aol.com Date: 06/22/06 20:27:03 To: WIMARATH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WIMARATH-L] 1930 census free for 3 days Saw this message on another list. You will need to give your names and email address..... but you get three full days - 72 hours of searching the 1930 census records for your ancestors - looking at the census images and printing them out for your files. >You can get all the information here. 3. Hi Susan, I'm not sure if this is your Georg, but if you search www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords you will find a George Fritsch, married to Schormbrdck, Cath. Here's a direct link to his record, http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/index.asp?id=1348897&record_type=m. To get to the spouse, click on "Search for possible Spouse matches". There is also a birth record for 1889 for Michael Fritsch. Good luck, Melissa

    1. Marathon Co
    2. I am looking for information about Georg Fritsch and wife C (K)atherine. They lived in Marathon Co, Mosinee. Had three children, Michael, John, and Cecelia. I know that Georg and Catherine are buried in Mosinee, and probably Michael and Cecelia as well. I have 1900 - 1930 Census information on the family, but am looking for information prior to 1900. Georg immigrated in 1880, I'm missing the first 20 years here in U.S. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Susan (Fritsch) Stitt

    1. Re: [WIMARATH-L] HETTWER/marriage license
    2. I don't have the names in the M. C. Marriages, Birth, Deaths - pre 1880. As Wisconsin didn't require them until 1907 to be registered, this is not at all uncommon that there was no certificate. Your best bet might be to find a church record - and you can try the Wisconsin Historical Society page for vital records - www. wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords Shelley
