    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2EC.2ACE/2731.1 Message Board Post: Brighton has taken many different shapes, and I am not sure if I can make myself clear! In 1870 Marathon County was made up of 11 townships. each township was fairly big, and over the years were made smaller. If you think of squares in the county each a mile square, at the bottom of the county on the west side, was the town of Bergen, consisting of 5 and a little bit more squares. Dicrectly above it was the town of Mosinee, with the same area - 5 + squares. The little extra was because of the Wisconsin River, and the area went to the river. OK - got that? >From 1873 to 1874, the township of Brighton was formed from the western most squares of both of those townships, leaving Bergen and Mosinee with 4 + squares, and Brighton with 2 - one the most southwestern sq. and the sq. right above it. So then, in 1875, Brighton gave the lower half of its acreage to a new township of Spencer, and took the eastern sq. of Mosinee - so now it had two sq. again, but in a horizontal shape, and one square above the southern border of Marathon County. Then on 11-14-84, Brighton was split in town - with the eastern half of the township forming Eau Pleine township and leaving it in the shape it is today. So if you take the county, and divide it into squares, Brighton is on the very western side of the county, and one square up from the bottom. In 1870 I would look in both Bergen, and Mosinee.

    1. [WIMARATH-L] OBITUARY INDEX?
    2. Karla Nurnberg
    3. Dear Listers, We are searching for the death of a Mrs. Catherine Buckmiller. Is there an obituary index for this county? We do not have a date of death for her nor a place of death. She probably died sometime between 1880 and 1900. The Buckmillers were living in Marathon County in the Wien or Rib Falls area in 1880. During our search we have found the surname spelled several different ways, such as Buchmueller, Buckmueller or even Bookmiller. Catherine was born about 1832 and her maiden name was Kappele or Kappel. This surname was spelled various ways, too. We have searched the cemetery index for Marathon and Taylor counties, but did not find her listed. Her son, George is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Taylor County. Catherine is probably the sister of Louise Kappel and we are trying to find out more about these two women. Thank you for any help that you can give me. 1. [WIMARATH-L] Surname: Marth
    2. We have been researching our surname for quite sometime. We are "stuck" regarding ancestors past my husband's great grandfather. We believe, but have not been able to prove, when he came to the U.S. there were at least two brothers already living in Wisconsin. His name was Ferdinand Albert Marth. His wife was Ernestine (Kiekhofer) Marth. They came to this country on a ship called Polaria and were accompanied by Ferdinand's sister, Louise, a maiden lady and their six children: Herman (my husband's grandfather), August, Auguste, Frank, Anna and Albertine. The family settled in Wausau, Wisconsin and lived at 519 10th Street. They attended St. Stephen Lutheran Church. We believe there is a relationship between Ludwig Herman Marth who also lived in Wausau, Wisconsin and Carl Marth who lived in Hamburg, Wisconsin. Any information regarding these possible brothers would be appreciated. Richard G. & Edith M. Marth
