Could you or someone out there put me in touch with a Wisconsin Koppa who has info going back to immigration names and dates from your Wisconsin area Koppas. I have much info one of the two Koppa lineages in Texas and it seems Wisconsin is the other largest migration state. Also looking for any other concentrations of Koppa/Kopa family groups who have immigration time names and places. My great grandfather was Josef Kopa/Koppa who immigrated in 1879 with his wife Franziska, two young sons Joseph/Josefa (8) and John/Jana (7)(my grandfather) and daughter Frances/Franziska (16 months) from Vizovice, Moravia. They came on the German Liner "General Werder" and landed in New York then down to Galveston, Texas. They settled for several years in Wesley, Texas before finally moving to Rosebud/Lott/Travis, Tx area. There John married a Rosalie Schiller he met in Wesley and had 7 daughters and my dad, John W Koppa Sr, all raised in Rosebud. The original Josef and Franziska had two more sons, George and Bill. I have info on all 5 lines. There is another group of Koppa's with descendants in Dallas and other Texas cities. Looking to hear from all other groups with similar info as above. I am currently beginning to seek researchers in Moravia present day area for the Koppa line and Bohemia present day area for the Schiller line. Looking for info traders. Most also do not allow solicitation of services, or advertisement of products. I hope to get some help here on Richard W. BROTHERTON of Hull and Colby, not flames! 3. --=======22634BDE======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-65AC1E56; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Dear Sneezy KAT and Shelley, I don't think what Shelley indicated in her memo is anything close to slander, but perhaps her assessment warrants a little illustrative detail. First, most of the discussion lists I belong to have strict guidelines regarding solicitation of services or products through their lists. It is acceptable on most lists to recommend a product or service to help solve a specific research question. It is NOT generally acceptable to make a blanket solicitation of one's services. It is even LESS acceptable to blanket dozens of listservs at once with an announcement of one's services. As the listserv coordinator (or whatever she wants to call herself), Shelley has the right, and indeed the responsibility, to regulate such activity. Second, anyone holding themselves out to sell products or services to the public should be fully willing to divulge his/her/its identity and qualifications so his/her/its "standing in the genealogical circles," etc., can be apprised out in the open. Sneezy KAT has not provided his/her identity, and a reverse lookup in Switchboard and Anywho of the phone number he/she just provided produces no results. I HAVE developed for-hire relationships with researchers online over the past several years--after I came to know their background, after I have observed them giving quality advice for free to others online--in other words, after they have EARNED my business. Maybe Sneezy KAT is a competent and honest researcher, or maybe he/she isn't--unfortunately, since we know absolutely nothing about who he/she is, and since he/she has not made at least the first attempts to earn our business in a courteous manner through these first two e-mail communications to us, we have no way of knowing, and in the interim, I find no value in her blanket solicitation of this list.
