The surname was (and is) prominent in Marathon City. John, Thomas, Henry, Alvin, Charles, Ray, and Sylvester are listed in the Marathon City centennial book (1957). The oldest Deiningers that I remember are John and Henry. John was the president of Marathon's only bank. Probably from the 40's to the 70's. His son Tom worked there at least until the 1990's. He may be retired now. Henry Deininger ran my grandmother's tavern, located in the Klein Building at 5th and Main, from 1936 to the late 50's. Henry was probably 70 years old in 1955 so he may be a brother to Elroy. The original building was built in 1886 by Joe Klein, father to my grandmother's first cousin, Lena Klein. Lena and my grandmother (Katie Bedynek Weisenberger) lived in the house connected to the tavern. It is: http://www.ussearch.com/ A few comments for perspective: 1) It is not at all unusual for anybirthday.com to be unreachable for days at a time (as it has been for most of the past week). I don't know why. 2) locateme.com owns anybirthday.com. If you get a message from anybirthday.com saying, in effect, we can't give you what you want for free, but for a fee you might be able to get it from ..." you will most likely be directed to some other part of locateme.com 3) www.ussearch.com has also been unreachable for several days. 4) One reason I don't fear either of these services with regard to identity theft is that it is difficult to get large amounts of data from them at once. Personal privacy concerns are another matter. The information they publish about me is so widely available that having it in one more place does not seem like a big deal to me, but I am well aware that some others view this very differently. Personally I don't care who knows my street address, but I want there to be only limited access to my phone number. I have never seen any indication that any of the services mentioned above will "cough up" your SSN, even for a fee. Rollie

I couldn't load Anybirthday.com either, but a quick search on Google found the following comments below about that site as well as another called locateme.com. By the way, while I've never seen or used anybirthday.com, I have used another site which has been quite helpful even to non-members. It is: http://www.ussearch.com/ Here's the comment on anybirthday.com I found: --Ken http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/anybirthday.html SAMPLE CHAIN LETTER TEXT SUBJECT: ONLINE PUBLIC RECORDS I'm writing to you to tell you about a dangerous web site named WWW.ANYBIRTHDAY.COM , a web site that may have your personal information on it including your address and SS#! Apparently, thieves are taking this info for not so birthday "ish" uses. I did find my name and info, and you can delete the information by following this procedure. SERIOUSLY, THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Go to WWW.ANYBIRTHDAY.COM 1.) CLICK ON SEARCH. 2.)ENTER YOUR NAME, BUT NO ZIP CODE (SOMETIMES THEY ARE WRONG) 3.) CLICK FIND BIRTHDAY. IF YOU FIND YOUR NAME AND BIRTHDAY, WRITE IT DOWN EXACTLY LIKE THEY HAVE IT. 4.) CLICK ON FAQ. 5.) CLICK PRIVACY STATEMENT. 6.) CLICK OPT OUT OPTION. 7.) ENTER INFO. 8.) CLICK REMOVE. WAIT 10 - 15 MINUTES, AND GO BACK AND MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS GONE. YOU SHOULD SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND CARE ABOUT. ALSO, SAVE THIS E-MAIL AND PERIODICALLY RE-CHECK THAT SITE AND MAKE SURE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION DOES NOT REAPPEAR. END CHAIN LETTER TEXT AnyBirthday.com is not a "dangerous web site." It is intended to be fun resource that will send you e-mail reminders of your friends' and relatives birthday. Their database of more than 135 million birth dates contains only names, zip codes and birth dates for identification purposes. They are affiliated with LocateMe.com who will, for a fee, provide the last known name and address of someone. Neither site provides social security numbers. From a statement on AnyBirthday.com: "Anybirthday.com never has and never will use or collect or distribute SSN information. Any message suggesting that we will for a fee or otherwise is simply false." The information provided by these sites comes from public records (i.e., information on file with government agencies such as health departments and motor vehicle bureaus). The instructions for removing your information from AnyBirthday.com are accurate, but you don't really gain anything from doing so, since this does not erase your information from the originating agency. There are no known cases of criminals using personal information obtained from AnyBirthday.com to perpetrate identity theft. Some versions of this warning say the advisory came from the IRS - this is also false. Admittedly, the findings on AnyBirthday.com and LocateMe.com could be used as a starting point for an identity thief or stalker, but any criminal willing to put forth the effort and cost to connect this info to data he or she can use would likely be able to find it from a variety of other sources. Also I have two obituaries for a Sister Veronica Brzezinski who was born in Bevent, and died this month in Chicago. I'll send if you know anyone interested in Brzezinski. Her death was pretty big news here. It was a hit and run. I received the above from a member - is anyone interested? Let me know. Shelley

They do have a web address which is www.gbgm-umc.org1umcwausau Hope this helps.
"M. E" does most likely stand for Methodist Episcopal, commonly known as the Methodist Church. Methodists received this name due to the concern of the Rev. John Wesley, an Anglican (Episcopal) priest who in the latter half of the 18th century traveled in England and the United States promoting a revival of Christianity and a "methodical" approach to Christian life and spirituality. The congregations he founded in the USA became known as "Methodist Episcopal." In some areas of the country, there is also a separate denomination known as the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). In relatively recent years, Methodists in the United States joined with members of the former United Brethren to form the United Methodist Church (UMC). The UMC has eight districts in the state of Wisconsin, with a bishop and headquarters at Sun Prairie, WI. In Wausau, there are now several UMC congregations, but I think the first and oldest of these is now known as First United Methodist Church located downtown near Third Street. Check a directory for Wausau, WI for the First UMC, or try contacting the United Methodist office in Sun Prairie if you need the location of old records. The Rev. John W. Krueger (ELCA) former chair, Faith and Order Commission, Wisconsin Council of Churches
I have several Irish families in my background (although not in Marathon County), and in the US they belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church as a "replacement" for the Anglican Church of Ireland - or could also replace the Anglican Church of England. Do you know the nationality of your great grandparents? This might present a clue if they were Protestant Irish or English. I believe it is the moniker meaning "Methodist - Episcopal." No idea what happened to the demonination or who they merged with. Maybe a United Church of Christ (UCC) minister could give you that information as they have had a tremedous amount of mergers to their own creation. There are still black churches in the South with a ME moniker but again, I don't know who they are affiliated with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for anything (pictures would be nice) on RUTH E. LILLIE. If I have my information right... She was born to George Brown Lillie, and Minnie Belle Smith 26 Oct 1896 in Wausau, WI. Around 1940 she married Albert H. CORKERY. (not 100% sure about the spelling) and they had at least one child, Annabelle, or Anna Belle born in abt 1942 in Washington state. Other than Ruth's birth, none of that is confirmed. I have her in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census, but lose her in the 1930. I have listed she died in April of 1960, but no source... can't confirm with the SSDI. Mary and her sister Ann Mess Hahn (1856-1926) were lost in the woods in November of 1865 for 9 days before being found. Some names listed in the search party are Robert Schilling, John Bloom, Puddy Lemmer, and someone named Heil that had a cow's horn. I have a link to her story of "The Lost Children" on my website located at: http://www.grassy.net/lost-children-1865.pdf http://www.grassy.net/genealogy.html I am inclined to think that Peter Heil owned the horn of the search party. I am curious if their are any relatives of Peter Heil that might be able to provide the site of his family home. Is that cow's horn still in someone's possession? I cannot locate the name Puddy Lemmer in any documents to date. Though, my search is still very much in its infancy. I am wondering if Puddy is a nickname rather than the real name? Anyone Lemmer relatives around that might know about this? Mary Mess Roth's story says he was a young man during the time of the search in 1865. Maybe the son of John Lemmer? Also, curious what the location of John Lemmer's home might have been. There may be a family relation to one of the Mess descendants to a Lemmer as well. The story says that Robert Schilling was in the Civil War. Anyone have information regarding his service? Also, curious what the location of Robert Schilling'shome might have been. I am thoping information ultimately this information will lead to exactly where John (Johann) Mess and his family might have had a home. W.W. Wynne: I have here a June 3, 1920 article from The Telegram, Eau Claire, Wis. It concerns a W.W. Wynne, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio then moved to Eau Claire. He worked for the U.S. Auto Gear Shift Co. The article outlines his career which started in England. Only the last paragraph makes mention of his wife and family and Hobart Street. Only his initials are given. I found the article tucked into old-sheet music, purchased at an antique mall. I am willing to recap the article if anyone is interested.
