That can be time-consuming if you need to go through, say, 38 pages of a township or even just one page of a newspaper because it's broken down into sections per image. Newspaper and UK subscriptions are additional to the main subscription. Genealogy.com also has add-on subscriptions to the main subscription that are hard to resist getting. I'm not sure if all the censuses are indexed in Genealogy.com. Just be sure you really do want one or the other, because once they have your credit card number it's hard to get a refund if you're not 100% happy. Incidentally, the parent company of Ancestry.com, MyFamily.com, has acquired Genealogy.com. To read the full press release, visit http://www.myfamilyinc.com/ and click on "Press Room" in the menu. Unsure about what this means to subscribers. Good luck, Jayne in Texas

    3. The search engine in Genealogy.com won't do discriminate searches. In other words. They have all of these fields that you can fill in with known, or supposed information to narrow down the number of hits, like on RootsWeb's World Connect search. The only thing is, if you search for John Brown; Salem, Essex, MA; born 1748;, you'll still get every entry in the world for John Brown. I'm talking thousands of entries, from Maine to California. I complained numerous times over the period of my one year membership, which by the way, I'm not renewing. On occasion you'll find something after spending hours looking through all of the unintended matches. But I find that to be a tremendous waste of time. I had better luck ordering microfilms from the LDS to view at their Family History Center. Personally, I'd recommend Ancestry.com. 3. If you're concerned about the speed, it's not the service, it's your internet connection. I use broadband and there's nothing slow about the way Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com work. The problem with viewing images online is that that you have to wait for them to transfer to your computer, just as if you were downloading them. The average census image is about 1/4 megabyte. Even on the fastest dial-up connection it takes about a minute to completely display on your computer screen.
