    3. Another way, one that is less controversial, is to spray the stone with water and wait until it starts to dry. The surface will dry quicker than the engraving. This is particularly helpful if you want a photo of the stone itself looking 'natural' Many feel that applying anything with a chemical in it may harm the natural finish of the stone. I don't know for certain if this is the case with shaving crème, but one must be careful with granite countertops, as anything with an oil in it does remove the shiny finish and it must be repolished. Many shaving crèmes contain moisturizers, which may contain some oils. Cindy
